Do mock scrapes work? Any thoughts on actually peeing in a Deer scrape?

I am south of Natchez west of 61 in the hills and very little flat land. 3 small food plots just under an acre each.

Any help is appreciated

I think it depends on the situation, rut timing, weapon, buck doe ratio, etc.

But under the right conditions, yes.

A lot of the video guys in the Midwest during the rut are moving to fake licking branches, mock scrapes, decoys, and scents. It definitely helps bring in big bucks, especially getting them turned right for a bow shot.

That being said, if I'm sitting over a gas line ROW in the piney woods of the deep south with a 300 win mag, I'm not sure it's worth the time and effort.

If the buck:doe ratio is close, it works great. Where I hunt the bucks are outnumbered by does and I may get a yearling buck sniff around a mock scrape if lucky.

Sure they do, but 95% of the activity on them will be at night.

I’ve had some success cutting a vine about 1 1/2” in diameter and hanging it from a tree about belly button high, spray some mock scrape Scent on it and make a mock scrape underneath the vine. I usually do this along a travel corridor or on a logging road and I hang my stand within bow range. Jeff Sturgis has some good videos on this topic.

They do for me. We’ve got a small
Plot that always gets torn up. I make them early every year and bucks hit them even before rut starts. I use code blue

I have randomly made them but never put a camera on them, had no real strategy to where I put them or follow up to see if it works. So I am no help, but I like the idea of them.

I’ve had much better success hunting scrapes that deer actually made. Seems obvious, but I feel like people don’t want to put in the work to find sign/where deer are, and spend more time trying to find ways to bring the deer to them.
Last year in the Midwest, I made a mock scrape and put a camera on it and hardly got any pictures. When I got back to Louisiana I put a camera on an existing scrape I found and had at least 4 different mature bucks show up to it.
Peeing in scrapes hasn’t seemed to help, nor hurt activity in my experience doing it. Pee’d in one last year up north and had some young bucks hit it after, but I haven’t found that it’s some magical thing to make the giants in the area come rushing in.
For what it’s worth, my strategy going into my trip to the Midwest this year will be to find 1 or 2 fresh scrapes, hopefully with a couple good sized rubs close by, put my buck decoy up by the scrape and setup over that and do some calling.

Pee in scrapes. No problem.

Get tight to heavy cover. Set up on ridge tops where you can look down into the bottoms.

Mixed results. Not good in Louisiana but some action on them in Missouri. However, Mostly at night. I bow hunt only and mostly on public. With all the yahoos out there spraying Tinks everywhere setting off scent bombs, etc. I've chosen to not introduce any thing like that to my spots. Just try to stay as scent free as possible and spend time in the tree.

Hunt between Xmas and mid January, pee in every scrape you see and hunt mostly mid day. Still gotta put your time in. Worked for me, several times.

I’ve even tried pooping in the scrapes.
Had decent luck with it but other times it sends the big boys running for the hills.
