Mississippi inshore fishing boat recommendations

Folks,
If y’all are familiar with the MS coast, please advise whether you believe a well equipped Gheenoe canoe (probably the 15’4 with a 10 HP outboard) would adequately allow an angler to chase specks and reds in the inshore fisheries (Biloxi River, Biloxi Bay, artificial reefs in the MS Sound, St. Louis Bay, Wolf River, Jourdan River, etc.) and occasionally venture to Cat Island.
How does the Gheenoe handle in a light chop? I feel as if a 15 foot canoe would struggle in some of the conditions I’ve seen recently.
For the price of a relatively well equipped Gheenoe, I could also get a small bay boat. I like the Gheenoe’s simplicity, price point, and durability.

It would do fine late fall-early spring. When everything moves out front you’re limited. You really got to pick your days on the beaches. Most MS folks fish the islands or BM and that’s pretty much out of the question with a gheenoe or kayak. All the protected water you could comfortably fish all the time is about to get slow and will never compare to Reggio, Shell Beach, etc...
I would not go to the islands in a gheenoe but there are a few folks out there who kayak to cat. It’s possibke but I wouldn’t do it.

We got our arse beat riding back from the Biloxi Marsh in a bay boat Saturday, no way you're taking the gheenoe to Cat Island on anything but a slick calm day, and then you're rolling the dice it's calm on the way back.
Deer island, Back Bay, Biloxi Bay etc. are a different story, and I've fished there in a 14 ft jon boat with no issues.
I think you should ask yourself if you're going to use the gheenoe in fresh water as well as inshore as south MS has a lot of rivers where it would shine. If you're strictly looking for an inshore option then I think south MS just doesn't lay out very well for a gheenoe. Very few marshes that don't require a run over open water and you would be very limited versus even a small bay boat.

No f-ing way, that is insane.

I always see people out at Cat in the summer in flat boats, etc. I think they are insane. The sound can go to hell in a hurry.
That said, there are lots of places to catch trout/reds all year around here in a small boat. I do it in a kayak & a 14ft flat. Just don’t expect to go to the islands. If you do, make sure your life insurance is up to date.

frickin right we did. You would have been camping out at the islands or on the bottom of the sound had you got stuck in that shite in a gheenoe

This. I fish out of a kayak and a 22 ft bay boat. I have gotten beat to death so many damn times crossing that sound in the bay boat. The MS sound is a bitch that I have a healthy respect for. Enough that I’d never kayak that far out in it.
Speckledawg made a good point about Deer. It’s absolutely doable in a Gheenoe. You’ll find fun places to use it in MS but I’d just drive an hour and change to reggio

And the majority of them have to be rescued by other boaters. I've had a handful of fishing trips be nullified because we have to rescue some redneck and his ol' lady or brother because they are stranded out there.

Keep going, no fish here anymore.

Since y’all have effectively vetoed the Gheenoe idea, could you produce some suggestions for boats y’all believe could handle what I want to accomplish? Thanks again.

16 foot Boston Whaler's are common on the coast. They can make it to Cat on a good day. They are a rough ride in chop though. I would not venture to Cat in anything less than 16ft, 75hp, fiberglass vhull. Even then you would have limitations.

$3k - $10k (for the right boat)

That ain't no lie. I fish out of a 17' Montauk and often wonder how the hell it takes chop/waves what seems like worse than our old Tim's Marine flat.

Cape Horn's can be had in that price range. Pretty capable deep v hull for a smaller boat. In that price range you will want to get the engine checked by mechanic. They will be used and probably 10yrs plus in age. Age and use are not bad, but can be problematic if not maintained well.

I like these but most are not set up for trolling motors.

That looks like a good deal and would leave OP with some money to add a trolling motor etc.
