Anyone else having issues getting service on their Mercury Outboards because of Mercury Marine back ordered parts?

My uncle has been waiting well over a month for service department to get necessary parts to fix his outboard and still nothing.

Dealer said it is driving him out of business because he can't make money on servicing because he can't get parts.

Pretty sure they are behind up big time, my prop guy said it’s like 4-6 months backorder

It is all over not just one industry.
Unfortunately, the dealer deals with the customers frustration.

As a consumer we got to understand they are catching it on both ends.

They want to complete jobs in a timely manner, that do not come back so they have a happy customer and get paid.

So it isn't like its one dealer but across the board so taking it to another place wont help is what it seems like.

Talk about sucks.

I sure hope my Merc doesn't need service..

It's across the board with pretty much all manufactures. Have a buddy that was just offered 8k more than he paid for his 300R by a guy that didn't want to wait 10 to 12 months for a new one, my buddy declined. Now he is waiting for back ordered rigging parts

I’ve heard new mercury outboards are somewhere around a year long wait time.

Yamaha also apparently just cancelled all non filled orders and are forcing you to reorder with no indication of delivery times.

(From what I have read)

Mercury stopped giving out wait times about 3 weeks ago, at that time it was 54 weeks for most all new four strokes over 250hp. Now they just say they will contact you when your engine is 4 to 5 weeks our from delivery. Dealers are getting killed, dealer I deal with has 104 Mercury's on back order right now. The pre owned sales market is crazy high due to demand, not sure what the folks that are selling are doing about replacements though.

I feel for the guys that are cash dealers or do not have huge credit lines and floor plans.

It has been a great year for us, but I increased my credit lines and ordered extremely heavy. My orders have been cut, but I have product.

The smaller dealers do not have that luxury which I feel for these owners as parts & service is where they make their money.

I needed service on my Evinrude a few weeks ago and parts were back ordered. Can’t imagine a popular brand like Mercury. I’m shopping trolling motors and guess what, those are back ordered too.

Many items are on backorder. It’s with just about all marine industry brands, not just Mercury. Some dealers are just using the excuse to drag their feet. We have fixed quite a few boats lately that the owners were told it would be weeks or months before their previous dealer could get parts or get the job completed in a timely manner. This will be an interesting summer.

I wish the outboard dealerships would come up for bid every few years. We have the laziest bunch of people who own them.
