They kill the shite out of geese. One of the more consistent goose killers of what few remaining Snow Geese that still migrate to the TX coast that are left.

I have no clue about their fishing side so I will take your word on that.

Any reason why you do not like RnG? I was about to book with them but have heard from multiple sources that trey or brett are the go to guys

Edit- from their social media profile, you would think RnG consistently catch big trout?

I concur also. Let’s just say they portray the worst stereotypes of fishing guides.

I’ve also fished with Tommy Alexander and he’s a cool dude as well. Caught some nice sized trout.

The head guy could end up being a felon for cheating in the Texas Oilman’s tournament.

Separately, their Instagram looks good because they combine groups fish/ducks for photos. I think the game wardens we’re onto them for that, so it is scaled back big time, hence the photos this duck season are not that impressive for them.

What is my skin in this game? 3 completely bullshite duck hunts. I should have learned my lesson after 2nd shitty hunt but when they have opening sundays available I didn’t pass up.

About Trey, twice he has rescheduled trips because he isn’t patterning fish and “isn’t in the business of taking people’s money”

Pretty solid guide to do that.

Follow up bump question for you and Mr. Sausage. Is November a good time for big trout in Matagorda? Im booked with Brett sweeny the second weekend but was wondering if Dec-Jan might be better.

Well them boys must be feeding birds because the videos they post of ducks and geese look insane. Lodge also looks world class.

The lodge definitely looks nice. I think some of the frustration people have with them is with their ideas on conservation. It seems like they are making an effort but may be slower to do so than some would like.

Typically in November there have been a several fronts moving through by then and the shrimp are getting out of the marsh and into the bay so there is a shite ton of bird activity but the downside is if you catch a front or post front day, the fishing may be off. November is a gamble due to the fronts. Typically we catch more quantity than quality in November.

In Dec-Jan the trout bite is so hit and miss that I don't go plus it is duck season. We pick it up back in Feb wading and throwing topwaters on shorelines that get good afternoon sun. That is my favorite month for catching big trout but once again you got to have all the stars align with the weather.

good summary. A post front wind blowing will kill that bay. The bay has a lot less boats but you do deal with duck hunters more. You can absolutely nail them though if you catch it right.

My indecisiveness kills me on picking when to go but that’s all part of the fun haha. So, if you could only pick two months your the year to specifically target big trout, assuming the conditions were right, what months would you guys pick? And thanks to everyone who has helped!

February for exclusive big trout. Then May I guess when they are spawning.

I think February thru May would be your best chances for big trout. I say this solely from watching IG posts there the last 2 years.

I’m going with Brett on a Friday on July 18. I don’t have anyone going with me yet. You’d be welcome to join Halls, or anyone for that matter.

Nada. I’ve exclusively hunting in Pierce and Rockport now.

Bink Grimes now has private freshwater marsh in Matagorda area - I’m considering a hunt with him too.

I just can't make that drive to Pierce from Kingwood anymore to hunt during the holidays. I have seen way to many wrecks from dipshites driving drunk to risk that anymore plus the Eastside has been much better lately for us.

Speaking of Run and Gun, they just picked up some freshwater marsh down there as well. I wonder if Bink is working with those guys now?

I appreciate the offer. That’s a real possibility because I was planning on going to the farm sometime in July. I’ll make a dummy email when I get home so we can trade numbers.
