I generally surf fish. I've usually caught them when I was fishing around little lagoon pass in Gulf Shores, I actually just switch to smaller hooks and catch them on bits of shrimp when nothing is biting . That's how I know they are prickly. I'm no expert but I would think a cast net in that type of area or anywhere there may be a concentration of pinfish would work pretty well.

Grass flats + jack mackerel + cast net = shitloads of pinfish.
