Figured I would share this for those who can’t stand the lack of reverse lighting and how useless the reverse camera is at night.

$75 Morimoto boost bar and a $75 putco wiring harness = huge improvements in rear view visibility at night.

Would be good to turn this one when someone is behind you with their brights on.

Looks great. Is it wired into your reverse lights or on a switch?

I thought about wiring it into my cargo light switch but with the electronics these days you gotta be careful what you do.

I was worried that having it double fed from reverse lights and from a cargo light that it could backfeed power or just cause it tk not work at all because the truck thinks there’s a short. They have so many sensors that if it thinks somethings wrong it just turns it off.

It’s a putco wiring harness so that I didn’t splice into any of the factory wiring. It’s basically a pass through connector and wiring harness that is normally used for the led rope brake lights that people put under their tailgate.

So yeah it turns on with reverse

Could you provide the link on what harness you used? I would like to add this to my Sierra too.

I used this same setup on a Ram. It was a major upgrade for sure. Definitely recommend. I have a Sierra now and use the diode dynamics one because I don’t keep the receiver in because of the silly tailgate. It’s a good improvement over the stock lighting too but not quite as bright as the morimoto one. More expensive too. Completely plug and play though.

Did you buy your truck from the Laura Buick in Illinois? If so was it a good experience? They have some of, if not the best prices I’ve seen and I thought about buying from them and paying to have it shipped to Louisiana.

Phenomal. Price you see is price you get. They don’t charge tax so you take care of that at your state tax office. Think there’s like a 300 dealer fee that they add over the price you see.

It would have been $1600 to ship to Houston.

I bought over the phone e-signed all the docs.

I bought a $400 flight to St. Louis (expensive cuz flight was four days away)

They picked me up from airport. I walked in picked up paperwork did walk around truck and left. Was at dealer less than ten minutes.

800 mile drive home pulled into driveway at 1am. If you don’t mind a long day it’s not bad. Up to you if it’s worth the little over 1000 in savings

The harness should have a seperate reverse wire that’s a single wire. The harness also has a regular 4 pin trailer plug.

I spliced into the trailer plug neutral and to that seperate reverse wire.

The Morimoto light should have a little pig tail with red and black wires.

I suggest when you wire everything up to tape that connector together.

Pro tip when you go to unhook the connectors in the back in either side of the spare you have to depress the tab after you pop the red tab back. It’s not like some clips where you just pop the red tab then pull.

There's a guy in brusly that sells and installs aftermarket LED backup bulbs for trucks for like $70 installed. I had him install them on mine since most of my trailering is done at night and it's been priceless

Thank you!
I tried pulling the red tab back but it would not budge. I did see a video describing the exact thing you said, once the tab is back, press the black tab.

I’m going to do it tomorrow!
So red wire from light to the reverse wire and black wire to neutral on the trailer harness?
I’ll update when I get it going! Appreciate the help!
