It's tiered now, and there is a tier that allows doe blasting without having to keep all the jaw bones.

We got out of it for the same reason. Getting jaw bones out of every deer is a major PITA

I grew up in a DMAP camp, used to get my bubble gum money skinning the jaw bones for the other members. When I got into a camp in my early 20s, I was looking for a kid to do the same, it’s really not that hard, but it’s something else to mess with.

Where I hunt now is private, the land owner was looking to enroll in the program to get away from doe days, I rolled my eyes thinking I was gonna have to start keeping jaw bones again and he told me how it was tiered, so all he had to do was pay a couple hundred and hang up some signs and we had free reign to shoot does on a Tuesday in January. Ended up not having to as this area doesn’t have doe days anymore.

So yeah, it’s shitty, but sometimes it pays to play the game.

What's most frustrating is that with the standard rules, very few does get killed. 6 is a lot for us. Then you get in DMAP and a biologist shows up and tells you that you need to kill at least 30. Makes no sense.

It's just an extra tax to shoot what you want is all.

that’s exactly what it is, a tax, but there is a benefit.

They’re trying to get to a 1:1 ratio, and X number of deer per acre/sq mile based off of habitat. It’s partly to maximize deer potential, but mainly to minimize the chance of overpopulation diseases, like blue tongue and now CWD.

If you normally shoot 6, they tell you to shoot 30, and you shoot 15, you will see a better rut, where bucks get on their feet and travel, and your young bucks will stick around rather than getting run off by momma

Should the state be taxing hunters extra to get the results that everyone on both sides want?

Should? C’mon man… but $100-$200/yr for 40 acres to 10K acres to nix doe days and still not need to collect jaw bones, is a tax I can deal with.
