looking to buy new hunting rifle

Let me start by saying I am not a very good shot with a scope on a rifle. I am pretty accurate shooting my 22 with open sights. I shoot a remington 30-06 automatic. I am a skinny little fricker, 5'-8" 130#. I can shoot 4 boxes of 3" 12 gauge shotgun shells in an hour with no problems, but when I shoot my big rifle that kick is in the back of my head. I know I need to stop being a pussy.
My son is 4 and started sitting in the stand with me last year and already is asking to shoot a deer. I have my mind set on a 7mm08. My dad just bought one and absolutely loves it. Do any of yall have any reservations on this caliber. What other guns should I consider?

for you and the boy.. 7mm-08 reduced recoil ammo perfect.
