They're not going to breach your front door with SWAT to get your guns. If they know you have them, they'll just wait to arrest you when you're at the grocery store or at your kid's baseball game. They're like the Taliban - they have all the time in the world and they just have to wait for you to let your guard down.

And they won't come get them. You will have to decide on owning your "illegal" firearm and being "the man of the house" or getting caught with it and 10 years in prison (while your kids grow up without you). Hence, making actually using your firearm highly risky. How many illegal things do you currently own? Things so illegal that you would go to prison for possessing?

This is exactly correct, and I will add when a LEO is faced with the choice of giving up their paycheck, pension, and other benefits, or arresting you for possessing a banned firearm there is no doubt in my mind which they will choose. It will be just like when they are walking out the small business owner in handcuffs for violating COVID restrictions, “sorry, we’re just doing our job.”

LE, much like our military, is loyal to a paycheck. Been that way for thousands of years.

All depends on leadership. If the sheriff chooses to enforce, then yes, it would likely be enforced. However, Sheriffs are elected, not appointed. It's not as cut and dry as you think. I'm 48. This will absolutely not be an issue in my lifetime. They can talk all they want, but it's not happening.

Spot on.

The best thing to come out of COVID is to see just what the cops will do when it's nut cutting time. They will choose their jobs over your rights 10 out of 10 times and will do it as if they have no choice.

then send any non criminal citizens possessing said guns to prison for 20 years.

If I have to do 20 for that I'm 100% taking someone out.

Standards have always been low, I don't know any other profession that won't hire someone because they are smart. Even the military takes smart people, they just put them on a different path.

People are delusional with the police, they claim they want small government but are so pro big police departments. They don't realize they don't give a rats arse about you, their job is to protect and serve the big government.

I have no doubt that the majority of police would enforce a gun ban if enacted, like I said, they protect and serve the government, not the citizens.

Not every PD is run the same. I worked for two large metro departments and I can say that this take does not apply across the board.

Preference points were given during the application process for those with more education, starting salaries were scaled up for those with college degrees, vertical growth was capped for those who only had a HS diploma, and our academy was blended with JuCo professors and instructors so that academy graduates finished with a little better than a semester of college credit.

I'm sure there are some very backwoods places that are much like you described, but larger metros who care about their image and the officers they produce have been taking a different route for more than 20 years now.

Again, I can't speak for all PDs and SOs but our oath specifically included upholding the US constitution first and foremost, and was written in such a way that the oath is to be pledged to the public. As such, all graduations were conducted at a municipal hall and was open to the public. The oath was presented by the chief and one civilian (not sure how they were chosen), and then sworn back to the public in attendance (and, by extension, those not in attendance).

I'm sure there would be some horrible officers who would blindly follow directions, but I would wager that more officers than you think would turn in their badges before doing something like this. I again point to the walk off in Seattle, and that pales in comparison to what is being suggested here.

They never do this, it endangers too many bystanders if things go wrong. Even for a low level drug dealer they go in at 2am with flash bangs and 20 guys.

They'll call your vehicle over the intercom at work and say you left your lights on. You step foot outside and they got you. Has happened where I work.
