Is there a place to buy live shrimp locally (in baton rouge) or is it pretty much limited to boat launches and bait shops?

Try an Asian market

Probably hard to find in br. Not much market there and shrimp are hard to transport and keep alive.

Not much live shrimp ever in town anywhere. But fish like dead shrimp too.

When you can find them, it's almost not worth it because they die quickly and bait stealers eat most of them anyway. Unless I can throw a net to get more, I'll use artificial or minnows/mullet.

Assuming you are going to try and fish with these, save your time and money and go get some Vudu Shrimp from Academy.
It's hard getting live shrimp from Delacroix launches right now. Can't imagine finding them in BR.

Sounds like Shrimpers are about to shut it down.

About 200 shrimpers gathered in Houma on Wednesday to vent their frustrations about foreign imports that have driven shrimp prices to levels not seen since the 1980s. They also fumed over a lack of political support for tariffs and other measures that could shore up an industry they say is heading toward extinction, the newspaper reports.
"We can't make it on cents. We need dollars," said Dean Blanchard, a Grand Isle shrimp distributor. "There's no way this can continue."

So a few of them stop shrimping sell their rigs, supply goes down, prices goes back up and the ones who stick with it make bank until everybody starts shrimping again.
I have a hard time feeling sorry for these folks. I do always buy local though.
