I could see myself throwing the bag up ther I. The dark and it coming back down and finding a way to smoke me in the face. Sticks with aiders are just too easy

Got my sticks in. Hit them with camo vet tape and used rubber gear wire to secure a little better. Had this backpack for 5 years and this is definitely the first time I’ve actually had to use it like this. Still waiting for the Mantis to come in. ETA: also fashioned a moveable one step aider (not shown) out of tubing and some old coax and duct tape. It’s functional I think.

I have some of the camoform tape I use on stands and carabiners, sticks are way too easy to paint camo. Takes all of 5 minutes with a tan and brown since the Heliums are already kind of gray.

I did it to mute the metal clanging; the camo is just a bonus.

A ropeman 1 is also a must IMO not just for saddle hunters but also for lineman’s belt for anyone running sticks. I was so frustrated when I switched to a lock-on from a climber and had just a prusik knot.

I had a lot of trouble with the prusik knot this weekend on a larger tree. I usually am able to adjust my linemans belt no problem but I couldn't get my arms around this one. Did you put together your own lineman belt or just add the ropeman 1 to a store bought version? I have a couple that came with stands that I've added better carabiners to.

I started saddle hunting this year. I don't plan on using it full time so I didn't want to spend a lot of money on my set up. I went with a sit drag that I modified and I built my platform out of a electric wheel chair platform, some square aluminum tubing I had lying around and some XOP tree brackets. All together I’m in for less than $150 It all performed very well. I killed my first buck out of it this past weekend.

it works very well. The whole platform, including straps, comes in at 4lbs and is super solid. I can jump up and down and move around all of the edges without it budging.

Can you talk a little about your hunt for that deer? Can’t really tell but he looks like he could be older. Nice job regardless.

Well done DT. I have to find someone to sew. I’ve been wanting to modify my Sitdrag like that

Anybody climbs with spurs? Seems a lot easier then carrying a set of sticks around.

Sure, there are a lot of guys that do it, but they're mainly on private land where scarring up trees isn't an issue.

Bumping this to update:

I’ve got 7 sits under to me at this point. First sit was one I’ll never forget, unlike my platform which I left in the back of the truck. Just had my sticks and saddle but made it work. Since this was my first hunt out of it, I hadn’t completely figured out how everything needed to be positioned yet regarding my gear ( don’t do this). I was trying to figure out the best way to hang my backpack when a doe popped in directly behind me. So I just placed the backpack in my lap (!), pushed off with my right foot, turned, drew back, and shot. Quartered way at ~23 yards. Game over.

That alone sold me on this setup. Since then, I’ve slowly but surely gotten fairly comfortable with the setup. It takes a little more planning and forethought, but I can promise you that this way of hunting is only going to get more and more popular as marketing is starting to just now gain some speed.

Once I’ve had time to manipulate a few “presets,” I’m really going to enjoy it. The versatility alone is just fantastic. Almost any tree in the woods, and wind isn’t always a determining factor for any location.

I'm already looking into the “DRT” method of climbing which would even eliminate the need for steps or screw-in steps.

Thanks to everyone that chimed in with helpful tips.
