I hunt a few hundred miles away from union parish. Why should I have even further restrictions than I already do, in a place with a lopsided buck to doe ratio and plenty of deer, becuase bears are eating fawns in union parish?

But where they are they are hammering fawns. It is death by a thousand cuts, hogs, bears, habit destruction, and yes even yotes. Studies are showing that due to the prolonged high concentration of yotes they are having to adapt their prey choices because of consistent lower numbers of rabbit and other small game. I've brought it up here, every year I get pictures of yotes with fawns in their mouths.
Personally I say start a bear season and poison the yotes but neither of that will happen so less deer tags it is.
The big question everyone should be asking is do you really believe the duck numbers they report?

The state duck count?

No the total population one, you know, where they consistently spout " a new record duck population".
I personally think the duck population is a lot lower than they will admit.

that's been tried and it failed. I think we are stuck with em now. I'm all for a bear season, I think folks are being dramatic about them.

Failed? We eradicated wolves, bears and yokes from half the country.
Is a shame the furs aren't worth more.

Stupid arse meat eater show has gotten me on the path of not hating predators and favoring a balanced ecosystem as much as possible. I hate the idea of poisoning anything that's going to be in the food chain.
IMO the main wildlife issue everywhere in the lower 48 is habitat loss and thats something you can't control. There will come a day when only the wealthy have leases or own hunting property and the normal folk are putting in for resident public land deer tags.

Yotes were only in the SW portion of the country before we started poisoning wolves. When the wolves were extirpated it let the yotes expand and they kept expanding even when the poisoning efforts shifted to them.

The problem with Steve's outlook is it "in a perfect world scenario". That ship sailed when pilgrims hit Plymouth.
The fact is outdoorsman are responsible for the wildlife we have today and overwhelmingly the $ donated for conservation. The plate to eat from is only so big and constantly shrinking. His idea that hunters should be the one to give up their share for everything else will lead to net loss for wildlife.

True, I did listen to a podcast that was interesting about red wolves running out Yotes where they were reintroduce.
That said, no reason to think targeted poisoning of yotes wouldn't work.
I wish I lived closer to my hunting property, I would try to give them hell with trapping.

Yea his overarching view is not something I agree with. I just hate coyotes and wolves and bears far less than I used to.
Never did like poisoning anything other than rats/mice.

There os stuff that works very quick, like dropps then within site of the bait site quick.
Can't really put a dent in the hunting and no trapping incentive other than fun. Unfortunately trappers don't work for fun.
