Arrange meeting, gun inspection, swap cash/gun, go home.

I don't know how many people miss out on the most important part of the transaction... checking out the gun. I guess most people don't even know what to look for.

This is false. The business you buy a gun from usually don’t keep the paperwork you fill out for more than a year. There is NO system with serial numbers linked to purchasers of firearms. Some people on here have no clue what their talking about.

You could not be any more incorrect.

The government does not keep a record but the business does.

Here is the scenario:

Cops have a gun from a crime.

They contact the manufacturer with the serial number. The manufacturer tells them who (gun store) bought the gun.
Cops go to the gun store and ask them who they sold the gun to.

That’s your paper trail.

Good friend of mine, his business burned.
The had a harder time betting his new store open because he moved locations and the forms burned so he didn’t have any of the records he was suppose to have.

Gun store owners get audited and they better have their shite straight.

Laws for them must be different than 1985/86

After the major assassinations of the 60's, JFK ('63), Malcolm X('65), RFK('68), MLK('68), the Gun Control Act of (OCT 22) 1968 first required the F4473, and that the FFL permanently keep the record.

In 1985, they relaxed the law...

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms
27 CFR Part 178 [T.D. ATF-208; Ref: Notice No. 502]

Retention of Firearms Transaction Records
AGENCY: Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Treasury.

ACTION : Final rule, Treasury decision.
summary : Licensees are now required to keep records pertaining to firearms transactions indefinitely. These new regulations will liberalize that requirement, and provide that licensed dealers and licensed collectors will not be required to retain records for longer than 20 years and licensed manufacturers and licensed importers will not be required to retain disposition records for longer than 20 years.
EFFECTIVE DATE: July 29,1985.

I’m pretty positive that you take the money and then you hand over the gun and then you go your separate ways.

No further actions required.

If it were me I'd ask if the guy is prohibited from owning firearms and maybe Google their name. Not a requirement just CYA
