Would like to take my dad somewhere you can catch the big bass We see on TV that’s not too far from South Louisiana. I have been on trout guided and crappie trips but never guided bass fishing.
Anyone have any experience with fishing Lake Fork or experience/recommendations with guides in that area?

I’ve fished it a few times, but never with a guide. First time fishing it was last year, when the elites were there. I didn’t know they were there until I got there. They were still in practice. I ended up catching a 6lb 9oz in front of a couple of them. They didn’t seem as excited as I was lol
I also had one break me off that was probably pushing 10. She hit a top water, and then jumped before breaking my line, so I saw the whole fish.
Do you have a boat? If so, I would go to Bussey over anywhere else. Your odds of catching a giant bass are far greater there, than anywhere else I know of.

I assume your talking bussey brake in north LA?
I have heard of it but in name only. No reports or anything.
Is the sac au lait fishing good there? Also would like to do a guided trip for that as well.
I do have a small boat, which would be an option to bring, but was just considering hiring a guide for simplicity and increase my chances of catching a big one

I don’t sac a lait fish, but I know they catch them pretty good out there. It’s not legal to guide at Bussey, since it’s a wma. It’s only about 2,000 acres, so it’s not hard to figure out. You don’t need a big boat there either, just have to make sure the wind is 5mph or less because it gets choppy. My first time going, I caught 2 10’s back to back.
I actually caught a sac a lait on a frog last time I went. First time I’ve ever seen that lol

My brothers and I went and fished it blind a few years ago, all of us caught one over 7lbs with big fish being 9.5lbs. Some folks at the ramp got skunked. It’s not a gigantic lake, but it’s still fishing not catching. Give yourself a long weekend if you want to be absolutely sure you’re gonna catch, but a guide will know what they’re doing at any given time.

Bussey and Caney had a few different MLF tournaments at them over the last few years. Awesome little fishery, Caney is beautiful from what I've heard.

Good advice. I've been fishing it for years and never used a guide.

Yes, I've been skunked. But more often than not if you go for a weekend or longer 3 day trip you have good odds of catching a big slot fish. 16-24" is a ridiculous slot. Meaning it has a ton of "protected" 4-9 pounders. My personal best there was a 7 lbs 14 oz.

My buddy got sick one time so his dad filled in last minute and caught this nasty slaunch on Fork in the back of my boat.

Just shy of 10 pounds...
