Went to Shepherd's Hatchery yesterday. Didn't do a whole lot of fishing due to the 25mph wind. Still dont really know the official rules, but supposedly my GF's dad can bring four guests with him, but hes supposed to be there. But we just drove right in, no one asked who we were or anything. We spent a couple hours out there. There about 10 boats out there, most of which only have trolling motors. I assume those are for members to use to troll around the bigger lake. They have a trophy bass pond that is catch a release, and there are a few other bass and bream ponds besides the big area that you dont need a boat. All of the ponds except the trophy bass pond has a limit of 50 bream and 5 bass. As i mentioned, no one checked us in or asked us anything regarding who we were or whether we are members or not, but I chalked that up the the fact that it was terrible conditions, and mid January. We will try back in a couple months with her dad, just to see how strict they are during a time where more people are fishing.

There was a shady boat ramp to the big lake, but considering the boats in the boat slips didnt have motors, theres probably a HP restriction if you wanted to launch your own boat in there.

One of my coworkers lives right down the road from the place. He said his brother, who also lives not far from there, tried to buy some fingerlings from them to stock his pond. They refused to sell to him because he didn’t want to hire them to manage the pond. Apparently they said they didn’t want people who didn’t know what they are doing to waste their fish.

Sounds like some dicks. We didn't see any real adults working when we went, but we also didn't check in or anything at the little shop at the front gate. There was a younger couple, probably early to mid 20's, and two other baws about the same age. But I'm not sure they even work there. They were fiddling around with one of those patio covers with just the cross beams (I forgot the term), and actually asked my gf's dad and I if we could help them move it a few feet. Seemed like the couple lived in a little house on site.

Well, given the source it may be a tall tale. Or he may have left some key part out. I don’t wanna trash Shepard’s. One thing those prices do is keep the riff raff out. And I can totally understand that. One thing is for sure, I’d love to be able to go fishing over there. I just don’t wanna have to pay that much to do so.

Any of you use bobber stops for your Texas rig or for punching?

I use a combination of pegs for punching with heavier weights. These plus the regular bobber stoppers like you posted.

Like dat

ETA: I rarely peg my weight on Tx rig. Only if I’m flipping brush will I do that.

I looked for some like janky posted at academy, but all they had were the peg type ones. Pillage, thats pretty much what i was thinking about using them for. Punching through lily pads and grass and shite. You find it helps compared to not having them on your line?

Country Station in Broussard baw

And yes, the one picture is a 1-1/4 oz punch weight. Pegging it is a must when punching grass. You want it to work as a single compact lure. Otherwise the weight may go down and the lure could stay on top.

Where to fish saturday morning? Theres gonna be boats on top of boats on top of boats no matter where i go, so what are your suggestions? Lake martin is the easiest drive. henderson is the largest area so maybe the boats wont be stacked, but its muddy. Chicot is the longest drive, and i might catch 8 or zero. What say the OB?

Kids, man. Kids.

I'm gonna take some vacation days pretty soon and do some fishing. Work is in a lull at the moment. So, I may even be able to get away with an afternoon trip now that it's not getting dark at 3 PM.

ETA: I'm fishing a tournament next Saturday. So theres that.

Launched in the vermilion river earlier to test my trolling motor. Water is muddy and the current is bad. Pro tip, don’t go there.

Janky, you heading to the bend this weekend, or fishing around here?

Pillage, them kids aint old enough to fish yet? If you can put me on fish, I'm sure your kids won't have any trouble. I'm basically a child when it comes to bass fishing
