Reception should be fine. Theres a smaller lake after those two private lakes, right when the bayou opens up a little. Its a nice little area, too.
Let us know how you do. Im interested to see how someone who knows what theyre doing does out there.

Good. First time out there in a kayak on a weekday. I need to know that if shite hits the fan I can call for help.

You talkin about Cowan Bay? At least that's what it's labeled on google earth. That's a little over a mile from the ramp. Not too bad. I definitely want to at least go that far.

Will do

Want me to call you at 6 am?
Posted on 11/6/17 at 7:05 pm to PillageUrVillage
nah, I was on the road at 6am this morning. I'm sleeping in until at least 7am tomorrow.
I thought hard about going in to work late and going fishing, but with duck season around the corner, I need to save those "showin up late" mornings in case we are hammerin the ducks

I've never caught there either, as far as bass. Hammered the bream everytime I've gone, though.
Take the HWY 71 exit off of Hwy 90, between Port Barre and Krotz Springs. In the curve of the exit theres a gravel road that brings you to the launch.

I know a guy up that way that kills the bass over there. So, I know they're there. I'm gonna see if I can't figure em out.

I've talked to a few people who have also said they, or people they know, have caught bass there. I usually have my ole lady with me when I go there so I only bass fish until she gets on the bream, then I switch to bream fishing with her. The one time I went without her, I think I caught two bass about 9 or 10 inches at the most.

I hope the weather cooperates. Even if it rains, I'm going. I have a rain suit. Damn forecast is giving 60% for Thursday. But if I had to guess I'd say it's probably early morning with the front moving through. That by itself might make it tough. But I don't get many opportunities to fish these days. So I don't care. I'm going.

Change of plan. With the weather forecast looking a little squirrelly for Thursday, I'm gonna take the yak to 2 o'clock tomorrow. I'd rather take my bass boat out in the rain on Thursday.

First off, just being there was awesome. That is a beautiful place. Like I told my wife, it was like paddling through a Bob Ross painting.
I spent the entire day out there. I think I got the full experience. I don't know how many fish I caught. Had lots of bites. Missed some, caught some. Quite a few dinks, choupique, and garfish. But I ended up keeping my limit along with a feisty goggle eye. Just nothing big.
The most interest thing happened to me on the very first cast of the morning. The first cast I made this morning was by the train bridge. It looked like all kinds of minnows were hitting the surface. So I threw out my chug bug. All of a sudden I got a hit. By a big hawk that swooped down and grabbed my chug bug! Unfortunately I hadn't turned on the GoPro yet.
ETA: I estimate that I paddled over 8 miles today. I'm going to be really sore tomorrow.

Let me guess, senko?
Posted on 11/9/17 at 6:49 am to Janky
Well, I was catching on a jerkbait until a choupique grabbed it and destroyed the damn thing. So yeah, most were caught on senko after that.
