A Louisiana hunter must pay a $5,000 fine, serve two years of probation and complete 100 hours of community service for violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, federal prosecutors said. Kevin Berken, 60, of Lake Arthur, was charged in a bill of information with one count of violating the law by taking more than the daily bag limit of six ducks in any one calendar day, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Louisiana

Berken participated in two hunts for ducks on Dec. 27, 2018. He and other hunters jointly shot, killed and possessed 10 ducks. In a second hunt later that day, Berken and another hunter shot, killed and possessed 12 more ducks.

Our Federal Government sure is funny about which laws they like to enforce and which laws they like to ignore.

But you can steal if it’s less than $750

What a crock of shot.

Well, if you don't break the law, then you won't have to worry about which laws the government will or will not decide to enforce.

Good. He’s probably a habitual offender and has been doing this shite his whole life. His actions are an insult
To every hunter who follows the laws and hunts legally.

frick him.

Bunch of hypocrites in here

We constantly talk about how game laws are enforced way too lightly by judges.

Someone finally gets prosecuted appropriately and yall say it's too harsh.

Dude knowingly broke the law and killed over the limit. Got what he deserved.

They do not always lay the hammer down, but they should.

Courville poses proudly in LAS with a fake story, turns out he killed this buck at midnight by the red barn.

Lost a 1200 dollar matthews bow, and a measley small fine.

That " look at me " syndrone causes many a non conservationist trend hunters to stray from laws and ethics.

Kevin Berken

He ran for state senate the year after this arrest. I’ve hunted with several guys that talked about doing this sort of thing with doves and teal. Interesting that the feds prosecuted the case and not DA or AG.

There is also the expense of hiring an attorney to deal with the US Attorney.

I had a few friends that were popped down in Venice by the USFWS. It was a very serious thing, by the law they could have been sentenced to federal prison. They agreed to plead guilty and when they went in front of the federal judge to officially plead guilty and be sentenced, the judge read them the riot act about their transgressions. They had to pay a fine and were prohibited from hunting for 3 years.

Are you saying people should be able to kill as many birds as they want?
