He came trotting across the field at about 5:00. My wife was with me and she was about ready to leave, but I kinda talked her into staying for a few more minutes.

He didn't look like he had any intentions of stopping, but thankfully before he entered the woods he stopped and looked back in my direction - broadside.

I rushed my shot a little bit, and spent almost 2 hours tracking him last night. Got up this morning and finished tracking and found him. The coyotes had gotten to him, so there wasn't much meat that was able to be saved - but thankfully his head and neck were still in tact.

I'm going to take him to Woods & Water and get him scored this evening.

It took me FIVE YEARS of hunting before I saw a deer with a rack on it. I missed an 8 point last year... got my 9 point this year

I'd like to thank all of my Outdoor Board friends for your support during the last several weeks of very slow hunting.

^^^^^^^^^ This is one of my good friend's (who allowed me to hunt some of the land that he takes care of) son.

When I have some more time, I'll upload some pics from my iPhone of the whole deer and what it looked like when we found it. It was gross

Nice congrats

and I'm jealous. Ive only been deer hunting 3 times and had a chance at a nice buck.

I had heard the stories of getting shite shook and thought it to be BS......well I was wrong.

My friends that whole weekend called me a conservationist as I seemed to like firing a warning shot.

No doubt. I almost puked last night. We didn't find blood until we had been looking for 20 minutes. I wasn't confident in the shot I made... And the last buck I shot at I flat out missed. So, needless to say I was more than relieved when we found that first drop of blood.

Weatherby brand. I'm thinking that since it was such a high caliber at relatively close range, the bullet didn't mushroom at all and went straight through without a large exit wound.

Also, I have no idea where the bullet hit him because
he was basically nothing but a hyde and a pile of guts when we found him. Both shoulders and hind quarters
had been munched on and torn up. I'll post those pics later on.
