one thing I have learned and I made sure not to do it in CR was that you should always do your own research and never book through a resort.

Wise words! the resorts pretty much just add 25% and make the same call to the boat that you can for yourself.

We actually booked through the company that builds alot of yachts down there Maverick Yachts we went on the bite and the spanish fly, caught over 40 sails in two days between the two boats along with some mahi and tuna, raised a couple marlins but they didnt take the bite!

Highly recommend these guys for anyone looking to go, some of the people who went on the trip have been back twice since then with similar results!

that's not Kevin Hunter's place, is it? If not, you need to book with him. Local guy from BR made a bunch of money after Katrina and opened a lodge in Panama with lots of boats.

I've lost touch with him lately, but I need to make a trip down there.

ETA: he operates out of the tropic star lodge LINK

the key about booking fishing charters out of CR is to go meet your captain in person at the marina before you book....sort of like an interview process...

There are so many coke head, pilled out guys that call themselves captains down there..all they will do is take you for a 12 hour booze cruise and not catch damn thing.

That's the first place we looked and its definitely the best, however it is VERY expensive! just 3 days fishing there cost more than were planning for the whole trip!

Agreed.......a local I had met through a work contact recommended a guy and I had a lengthy discussion with him before deciding to book.

i went to hookedonpanama.com

we had a group of 12 of us and got a price of 2000 a person. this included 3 days fishing, flights from panama city to david, vip airport pickup, first and last night hotel at the veneto, all alcoholic drinks at the lodge and on the boat, excellent food. fishing was good, they had live bait every day. caught tuna to 175 lbs, sails, dorado, cubera snapper, and roosterfish.

very awesome trip indeed. bucket list type.

Should be fantastic. If you have time, whitewater rafting on the Chiriqui Veijo is fantastic. Class III and IV rapids for 4 solid hours.

Fly into Panama City, then smaller plane to David, then 1-2 drive to Chiriqui(probably Armuelles). Long trip.
