I plan to put eye hooks in the bricks in a diamond pattern like this

I bought a1/8 rotary bit for brick (i know a hammer drill is the best option but i dont have one), some #8 screw eyes (why is there no info on the size of the thing besides #8 is beyond me) and some 1500 ft of wire (planning on espaliering some trees).

Do i drill into the brick or the mortar. I am going with brick, but have read both online.

Will these eye screws and that bit work? I also got some silicon to put into the hole with the screw eye.

Thanks for any help or anyones previous experience.

I've always drilled into brick and used lead anchors.

This x 100...you can get a hammer drill for 29 bucks at harbor freight, using a masonry bit will cut through brick like butter, then secure with Tapcon screws, big blue screws and box usually has appropriately sized masonry bit included.

So, the idea was that the diamond patter would be running wire through the eye screws and bending.

i dont see that tapcon makes that.
This may be an option

I bought some 1/4 inch lag shields, threaded eye bolts and installed them in/on my wall to tie up climbing roses. I am keeping the wire like 6" off the wall.

Ive been debating how far to keep the vine off the wall. Thanks, i am looking at lag shields.
Trying to figure out the most cost effective way to do it though.

I wasn't sure it would work since the lag shields are a large screw diameter and the eye bolts are machine screws.

It's working well.

If this is going to be in full sun, you should use plastic coated wire. "Raw" wire will get too hot and kill the vine.

I have jasmine on my lattice on my carport.
When I bought the house it was here but had no smell. I bought 2 more plants that smelled great and they cross pollinated all the rest.

Careful drilling the edges of the bricks, they may crack with the hammer drill. If the bricks are hard to drill spray water on them.

Thanks for the tips.

I went to Stine instead of hd and lowes today and they had much more info to read over on what to use. I went with the lead anchor mentioned here and im going to try it out today. It seems like a big hole to drill in a brick, but i imagine it will be ok.

I dont have a hammer drill yet, but i was going to see how the rotary bit would work. I dont have much confidence, but didnt feel like getting a new drill.

Good idea on wetting the brick, i didnt think about it.

I dont think they will get enough direct sunlight to worry about the heat, but that is something good to think about.

If you have a rotary drill, that will also hammer drill. I own both. The rotary drill will break through basically any concrete or rock.
