Didn't want to high jack itismemc's thread. I posted in another thread regarding adding a jackplate to my boat. Seapickle was pretty helpful in answering a few questions in that thread.

I am looking for a manual jackplate with 4-6" setback preferably 6".The jackplate will be installed on a 18' Xpress.

Can i purchase one local to BR or is it easier to just purchase one online? if online, what are some good sites and brands?

Next question, best place to get them installed? I would install myself but i won't have anything to hold the motor up while I throw on the jackplate.

Also, is there a big difference in a 2-piece and a 1-piece? SeaPickle is steering me towards a 1-piece due to 2-pieces torquing under a heavy load.

Bobs or atlas.
Had a 10" bobs on my Xpress. Ordered from their website and installed myself. Never had an issue.
6" Atlas on new boat..all through dealer. Too new to comment but they are everywhere

We can find a way to mount it ourselves. A tree and a come along will do just fine.

10" Bobs hydraulic on mine as well. If you are going in skinny water or have an Xpress that is weight sensitive, go with hydraulic. I had a 8" Detwiller but changed to hydraulic quickly.

That's a good plate. I have an atlas and really like it. It's quick and does what I need it to do. Almost every new boat has one

Paging SeaPikle,

Do you think I will have any problems with steering cable length when installing my 8" jackplate. I didn't even think about this before I got the jackplate and started looking into it.

Go visit "Cajun Jackers" in Milton, La near Lafayette. Ask for Dana, he will install and setup for you. Makes them in his machine shop and owns the patent on his design. Really nice jackplates.

He makes the jackplates? If so, i already have purchased a jackplate. Just need to install it, while looking at it I think my steering cable is going to be too short after the jackplate is added.

On my Xpress my cable was fine on the 8" plate. When I went to 10" I had to get a longer one. I spoke to others who added a 10" and their cable was fine.

8" should be fine. 10" worked with my cables but it would get tight at some heights.
