For as much energy as he has, I haven't had a single problem with him in his blind this morning. Steady eyes on the prize

Nice furnishings. Typically is he fairly patient in a blind setting?

Surprises the hell out of me. This is only his second hunt and he hasn't moved unless I get up to walk around. Not a peep out of him going on 2 hours now.

They don't flare off that dog blind? I've looked at them before but damn they're big.

Also, how has that layout blind been for you? Is yalls' marsh down there typically wet or dry? My padna and me looked at all the MoMarsh stuff last year but decided it would be pretty impractical for our style of hunting.

Both blinds are ChadJones' that I'm borrowing.

The dog blind at its lowest leg settings is still pretty tall and they might be flaring but I'm okay with it because I'm just trying to get him able to see and mark some birds for his first few hunts. You can fold the legs in and it sits flat on the ground nicely. I'll probably have it down next time after he gets the hang of it. He really likes the dog blind because it keeps his skinny arse out of the wind when he's wet. He's already pretty comfortable in it.

The layout blind is pretty much the whitehouse of layouts from my experience. Very sturdy and tons of room inside and nice design for easy build/breakdown. I'm currently on the lowest leg settings and it's plenty low enough to blend perfectly out here.

Marsh I hunt is pretty damn low and both of these look way more natural than any make shift permanent blind I could build out here. I've also got 3k acres so I can be mobile throughout the year and these blinds make it super easy. Grass is pretty dry and hard enough to walk on if you avoid the holes every now and then. On high tide it gets a little wet but these have no issues sinking whatsoever.

Here's a picture from 2 weekends ago of the momarsh on the left and another older layout on the right. Birds had no clue we were there.

Eta: that's on the lowest setting for the legs. Again, you can fold them up under and have it flat on the ground if you would like. I personally like it off the ground a little bit to make it much easier to see right above the marsh grass.

Cool. We don't build permanent blinds either. We just hunt in the grass. I normally make my dog a little "kennel" somewhere where she's hidden and can see well.

I really like the idea of a layout blind but my problem is until late December, we're hunting in like shin deep water pretty much all the time...and the marsh sinks.

That does look really good.

And that's the dog blind in front of the boat, so you can see it blends pretty well with a good full outfit of brush. I'm not nearly as brushed as that picture, but I'm not seeing much action so it's no big deal.

That's pretty much what I'm hearing from everyone along the coast. The last I hunted was Sunday and there wasn't a lot around, but we got our birds. Hopefully tomorrow-Sunday is better.

Yeah it's not really an area that holds a lot of birds like where you're at, but it's 15 min from my camp and it's cheap, so I figured I'll hunt it out of convenience if nothing else. Can usually scratch together 5-8 birds which is fine with me. Don't have to deal with boat launches and on a good morning might see 4 other boats hunting, so the pressure is pretty light for these birds.

I hunt out of my kayak and it blends in fine and would solve the issue of being in water too deep for a layout:

We made some grass mats out of raffia and military netting that just rolls out on top of the yak. I have since spray painted it darker than the picture and then we also add native vegetation. I've never had ducks flare on me from it.

That looks salty. My lease has a pond that always has a pile of birds on it but it's unhuntable due to sinking mud. I can't get a layout to stay put without sinking away and it looks like that would be a good solution kind of like a layout boat.

Another thing I like about the layout in this low marsh is the fact that I can get out of the wind and keep myself warm inside. Helps me stay out here longer than I typically would.

Tough morning

Scraped up 2 greenheads and 1 hen in SW Arkansas.

Quite a few birds but extremely skittish.

Yup. I agree. It's amazing how much colder I get when I sit up in the kayak as opposed to when I lay down in it.

Nah, just the blind. They have some ~3" round feet to kinda keep it where you want it. If they sink in a couple inches, you can adjust the legs individually so it's not a big deal at all. They're originally made to stand in shallow water ponds, flooded ag fields, etc, but they seem pretty versatile.
