Area 1
34 degrees and no wind
Box stand on old logging road
308 Tikka

A doe and two fawns like hanging around the gate to my property. When I walked in this AM they took off and mama doe blew at me.

Got out here way too early

Area 2
36° slight south wind
Mathews phase 4
In my saddle on the north side of a cutover tract. Scouted this the other day and found some scrapes and a few rubs. Been waiting for this south wind to hunt it.
Good luck!

Turns out, it’s nearly impossible to switch windows in this 4x4 box with a 26” barrel.

I’m in 4x4 and find it’s difficult with a 22” barrel. I like using my Bog Deathgrip but that is nearly impossible, so I just use a shooting bag.

Assumption parish
59 with a NE breeze and a drizzle
Winchester model 70 maple 300wm
Pipeline stand

Both my weather apps showed 64-65° at 6pm with a SE breeze before I left the house. Now they’re knocking on 50° with rain that keeps getting pushed back. Looks like a wet, chilly ride for my underdressed arse going back to the truck.

Man, protect that fine maple stock from the elements, it’s a beauty!

Area 2
51° drizzling
Mathews phase 4

Came to an area I’ve never to but looks good on the map. Sitting on a log in the water on the edge of a swamp with the dry ground starting about 20 yards in front of me. Hoping one will come down the edge. I’m also underdressed. A light base layer with a rain coat on top. Light base layer bottoms, light pants, rain pants over that. Luckily the ride to the truck isn’t that far.

Area 2, public, same spot as yesterday morning
Mathews V3X 33
Saddle and platform

20 yards from the edge of a lake, and I'm in a tree that overlooks the path a 6-point and big 8-point took yesterday. I was set up 45 minutes before shooting light. Right at 30 minutes before shooting light, I heard some bucks harassing a doe about 100 yards away where there is an acorn tree they are feeding on in the woods. It's directly north of me, and I heard the doe blowing going northwest. I assume the bucks followed because I didn't see any of them today. I did have a big doe come under me and go into the lake at 10:30, but nothing followed her. I would have loved to stay all day but I had to get some work done.

I'm not giving up on this spot, but I have 3 others I need to work in that have been productive.

It sounds like I’m hunting the wrong piece of public

I put so much work into scouting this Summer so I’m just glad it’s paying off. If you’re around the West Monroe area, I’d be more than happy to do a bow hunt with you.

Summer

Ugh, no thanks. I do need to get out there in the spring before all the leaves show up. I'm hitting up 2 new areas this weekend after seeing more people than usual at my normal spots. My goal is to mark at least 2 trees, and find a place to sit later Saturday and Sunday morning before rain.
