Could've been a better way to go about it, but OB'ers are stewards of the land, much more than most forums on other websites. We have many years of experience outdoors, and respect every aspect of it also. Trying to get you to see the light this morning man

Sight in your bow for 35yds MAX, measured with a tape. I don't know if you have ever shot a deer with a bow, but they move. I have seen them hit the ground and my arrow went clear over her back. Any number of things can go wrong, and it isn't worth taking the risk of injuring something for no reason when it can be safely taken at another time.

Or, you can just get out of the stand early and let Capt ST's bf cawk you next to the wood stove all morning

It's only a matter of time before you lose a deer.

If the deer would have came closer I would've let her but she started out close and by the time I pulled my bow up, nocked an arrow, and drew she was at 50. So I stopped her and took the shot.

Sometimes it's better to just let them walk. I hunted a huge 8 last year and let him walk twice at 50 yards . Could I have made the shot? I consistently shoot 3 inch groups (with broadheads ) at that distance so I'm 90% sure I could have, but there are too many variables at that distance for me to risk it. The farthest shot I'll take is 40 and only under prime conditions, ie calm (feeding) deer, no wind, etc.

Everyone has to make their own choices about their effective range, but you should never shoot at a distance that you haven't practiced at with broadheads. Past 30 yards if your form isn't spot on, your bow isn't tuned properly, or your arrows aren't the correct spine (which is a common problem) your POI is going to change with a broadhead, especially a fixed blade.

That's the first shot I've taken at a deer over 20 yards. Killed 1 at 10yds and 1 at 18yds.

What an odd way for someone to come out of the closet. I would have figured him to come out in a cooking/drinking thread not in a wood burning stove thread.

If you keep shooting at 50 yards, its inevitable that you're gonna keep missing or wound a deer. If you wanna shoot 50 yds, stop using your bow and wait for rifle season.

Its probably one of the most unethical things you could have done.

You don't have to take up for the Capt. I got that off of his Facebook a few minutes ago. FWIW, his relationship status has changed to "In a relationship silly goose, haayyy".

Oh man, that was a mistake that made my morning
