This is next up on my wish list. Would be looking at .308 in either (though I believe that Witt has and will machine oversleeves for the Ruger in a 6.5 CM). Dark Horse Arms keeps the barrel length at 20" for the Remington while the Ruger has the 20" barrel with an oversleeve that takes length up to 28". The Ruger is significantly heavier (nearly 12 lbs compared to 6.5 for the Rem). Remington is only cheaper by $200.

Just wanted to see if any OB'ers had experience with either of these rifles, or both. Not necessarily the suppressed versions, just thoughts/recs on the platforms overall.

They aren’t bad and I wouldn’t be scared of any Remingtons.

People pick up a budget model $400 rem 700 and complain that it isn’t as nice as paws old 1978 ADL that he probably spent a months pay on back then. Remington had a bad year right after being acquired, but the high end stuff I’ve seen is still nice.

Also, the aftermarket support for the 700 is about as expansive as it can get. If you’re looking to do anything to it your options are limitless. For anything that I was going to modify like OP is wanting to do, id get the Remington.

Q Fix over both of those. 4lbs lighter than the RPR, folding stock, 2lb drop safe trigger, straight pull 45 deg bolt, SR mags, quick change barrels and calibers. 16" 308 or 22" 6.5CM Bartlein barrels available. 24" Proof Research carbon fiber barrels in 308 and 6.5 are going to be available soon. My 6.5 Proof barrel comes in tomorrow or Thurs. Will use the 16" 308 config for a lightweight pack gun for hunting, and the 24" 6.5 config for benchrest/target.

Welcome to take mine for a test drive if you want.

sidebar, I don't need an internally suppressed gun, but am interested in a 6.5 CM suppressed. How quiet are we talking. and if someone has one, what setup are you running.

Carson, that set up is an absolute thing of beauty.

How much we talking for the whole shebang , just out of curiosity.(Minus the suppressor that is.. I already have an Omega that would be perfect for it.)

Carson, Proof is making and shipping the 6.5 barrels now? Any idea on how much weight it adds? Curious.

they're not available for purchase yet. got lucky on a prior deal with them and got them to send me one (should be here tomorrow or next day). Less than a 3/4lb increase for 8" of barrel, which is pretty incredible.

the suppression element is important to me (no matter how irrational that may be), looking for a gun I can run subsonic ammo through at some properties without ear pro and be able to kill larger numbers of hogs without them scattering from the supersonic crack. Because I'm looking to hunt with it weight is a bigger concern assuming the "heavier" rifle isn't significantly superior from a performance standpoint. I'm not really looking to modify per se, rather looking for a gun from a gunsmith/dealer that will integrate the suppression prior to shipping. I'd rather do as little after market mods as possible.

Most manufactures offer a standard bolt action rifle with a threaded barrel. I don’t think there are many integrally suppressed offerings out there.

What else have you shot suppressed?

I couldn’t tell any difference between my 6.5cm and my .308 using same suppressor.

I’ve found a handful, including one that will take your gun and build an oversleeve around the barrel and mill down the foregrip to accommodate the wider barrel.

Dark Horse Arms is who I found the Rem 700 through (actually met the folks at our annual dove hunt). They’ve got a few other options as well.

The Fix looks slick though. Carson gave me more to think about...
