I'll tell you what it should be! But I think today starts the 2nd shotgun season.

During the second gun season as an FYI don't hesitate to do a drive if you can do so safely. The deer get pressured so hard with the gun seasons they don't move as much. A drive can really work well in some of the small woodlots surrounded by agriculture. I realize it's now how we hunt down here very much but I killed a 168 about eight years ago we hunted hard for a month and got him with a drive.

I hunted the first primitive weekend a couple of weeks ago in Marion County. Does and Does everywhere. I had a bad shot at a nice 8 point on day 2. Didn't take the shot as it was through a bunch of brush. Third day I was itching so I shot the first big Doe that came out. Overcast day 1. Counted 16 deer that day. A couple of spikes and a small 4 point included. Rest Doe/yearlings. Day 2 it rained off and on. Saw the 8 pt and then then a few Does. Really slow. 3rd day was clear blue skies. Shot the Doe first thing in the am. Could have shot smaller does the rest of the day, but let them walk. Wind was favorable all 3 days to my box.

There were more Does still with yearlings than I would have expected. But I am a novice and don't really know what I am talking about. Perhaps second rut will be good. Be careful driving around at night. I almost hit deer while driving 3 times.

Hunted with shotgun yesterday after noon had one good shooter 350 yards away. Saw 5 more young bucks in range but not shooters. I’ve never witnessed deer fighting and them young ones were fighting. Really cool.
