Oh someone is jelly! I have no problem with this practice. If it is legal do it, if you want it changed push your legislator to re-write the law. It

But it's not legal!! That's the point. Certain clubs/farms can get away with it because green jeans looks the other way. If it were legal, I'd pay our farmers to leave some crop. Very little is left behind during modern harvesting. What's left is quickly eaten.

In louisiana, it is perfectly legal to plant a crop, leave it standing and flood the crop, as long as you dont harvest any of it. And you cant physically knock any of the crop down, but it pretty much falls into the water anyway

If they are harvesting with a combine but leaving the hopper loose to where grain is scattered, that is illegal

So now having a poorly adjusted combine is illegal? What about a really old one? Does the state of LA buy new ones for compliance? I call BS on your assertion. Fed rules say wait 7 days post harvest and hunt away. We "spilled" a lot of corn in certain areas when we harvested. Oops!

Not unless there is still grain in the water, come hunting season

There is a difference in a little scattering, a spot with heavy waste due to machine error, and a whole field with corn dumped out the back

If you can't set a combine correctly, please turn in your farmers card.
Let me guess, the only spot spilled were where you hunted

People get paid to do this by certain organizations that are donated a lot of money by hunters

more of the money comes from HUNTERS paying the farmers to do this than water fowl organizations..

I been up to the dakotas...

I saw some wicked setups... that folks from chicago were paying the farmer NOT to harvest and to keep water as long as possible....

you couldn't fit another mallard on these ponds if you greased one with coon fat...

no till farming is a much bigger issue too..

many norther farmers will say they see ducks in FIELDS later and later every year since this started.....

birds are much more stupid when it comes to feed...

if you have ever "baited" a pond properly - or to band birds you would understand...

plus ducks migrate because of food...

deer don't...

same as weed vs beer. one has been illegal for a long time, one has been legal for a long time. People build moral and ethical perceptions based on what their government tells them. Its sad, but true.

personally, I don't see it very moral or ethical to "hunt" an animal over an unnatural food source, but I understand it serves a purpose for some people. I don't look down on anybody for it, because God knows, I have done plenty of immoral and unethical things

I don't believe in baiting deer either FWIW

I would imagine so. FWIW, if I had a 60 acre pasture in north la, I would put a levee around it, split it with a levee and sink a pit blind smack dab in the middle. Then I would sow it end to end with corn.

very different....

ducks throw caution to the wind in a properly baited field...

deer still use some caution if not same level..

plus deer don't travel 30 miles to eat..
