This is why, when we plant sweet corn, we don't put it near a highly traveled road.

Crazy enough...I grew up in LA and probably got sprayed by skunks 5 times growing up on the farm.

Then I moved to AL for 10 years and maybe "saw" 4 skunks the whole time I was there.

Ive been in FL for 5 years now and I have NEVER seen or even smelled the 1st skunk since I have been here!

Guess we just dont have many?

Funny you saw that...I have a buddy of mine that stopped to take a phone call on the side of the road about 2 miles from my house on the east side of orlando (aint much civilization between my subdivision and the beach). Anyway, while he was on the phone he need to take a piss so he walked around his truck to take a piss between the truck and the ditch and saw a big python in the ditch. It was winter time and it was pretty cold...he ended up just walking down there and picking the snake up and threw it in the back of his truck! No way I woulda done that but he did.

That's actually no joke. We quit planting sweet corn because it just got out of hand. You wouldn't believe how many friends you have when you plant 3 or 4 acres of sweet corn and a couple of the right people find out about it. We'd have people showing up, and wouldn't have a clue who they were. Then, when you asked who told them it was there, you wouldn't know who that person was either. We had good intentions to start with,, letting family and friends get what they wanted, but we finally just said screw it.

Is there any other crop I should avoid planting near the road?
