I upgraded from 5 year to lifetime. One came one day and then 2 days later I got another in the mail. Any reason why?

now they have to run the background check when you purchase a firearm.

I plan on going to the lifetime next year too. I'm much more concerned with them increasing the price of the license than them having to run a background check I'm surely going to pass.

I don't care. If they change the law again and veterans have to pay at some point again, I'm good.

Lifetime doesnt seem worth it. It takes 20 years to pay for itself.

Mine lapsed as well, I'm fine with resubmitting all of the paperwork, but do I really have to go to SP and get fingerprinted again?

It never pays for itself if you were to take the $500 you would use for a lifetime permit, pay $125 for 5 years and invest the remaining $375 in the S&P 500.

Today I took my youngest son (18) to get his pistol permit. There was no one waiting in the pistol permit line. Here in Alabama it took 10 mins, 5 mins to complete the form, then only 5 mins for the permit lady to run a check and print the card. There was no fingerprinting nor any delays. We paid $40 for a 5 year laminated CC permit and we were out the door. The permit process here is so easy and efficient.

Well, I hope to live much longer than 20 more years. And that's 20 years at today's cost. What about if in 8 years they double the cost of the 5-year permit? Lifetime hunting and fishing licenses are likely about to double in price, I can't imagine other "optional" permitting fees wouldn't follow suit once the budgets start getting hacked.
