If you really want to get down to it, I don’t understand tipping in any sense. Don’t get me wrong, I tip waitresses because the way the system is set up they rely on tips. But why should they? Just charge more for the damn meal and pay the damn waitress more. I don’t get a tip when I wire up a motor starter or commission some instrument loops. I bet no one tips their mechanic or their plumber or cashier at the grocery store.

Do you tip the barber?
Are any of those people sitting with you on a stand/blind for 8 hours a day for generally 2-3 days? Does the mechanic tell you “sorry, the part you needed just isn’t here today” and then spend hours with you making it as enjoyable as they can; then they send you on your way without your car getting fixed?
Guiding isn’t like another job. I’m not talking about the “guides” that drive you to a stand/blind and come pick you back up after a hunt, and you only see them during those times. Im talking about the guides that are out there on their 125th hunt for the season, animals aren’t cooperating and weather is shitty, but you are still having a blast because your guide is keeping it enjoyable for you.
If a guide is worth his salt he pretty much knows how a hunt/fishing trip will go way before you. A guide is measured by how good he is at what he does when the trip is a success, and how dedicated he is to you having fun when the trip isn’t a success.

A gratuity (also called a tip) is a sum of money customarily given by a client or customer to certain service sector workers for the service they have performed, in addition to the basic price of the service.
