Deer and hogs hanging on their swing set

My wife would lose her shite if she come home to this.

But yeah, I’m in agreement with everyone that this process should be started at a young age. I think I’ll hold off on their “pet” being the first animal they see dad kill and process, though.

I dont understand, we kill it, we eat it. God gave us all these teeth for a reason. The boy likes turkey sandwiches? Let his see where they came from. If he gets upset and cries, it just means he is normal. If he wants to swing the ax, maybe back off the TV for a minute.

The swingset is a great deer cleaning spot. My wife has no problem with it, the kids usually watch and help.

My brothers used to give me baby chickens or ducks at Easter. They would let me raise them, feed them, and become attached to them. Then they would slaughter them. I was horrified. I still have not forgiven them after 60 years. It was a betrayal to me and I will never forget it.

This is a touch extreme.

God I hate that saying. Despise it. Sometimes a wife is dead fricking wrong and sometimes she needs to be pissed off.

That and "it is what it is"

But I am female and I loved those birds. When they were given to me, eating them was not mentioned. They were my babies.

You’re making me think I should ignore my wife.

10-4. I recently got a bunch of cattle panels and thought about making a turkey tractor/hoop house out of them

My son is six and my daughter is 4. I took them to catch trout tonight and we took home 2 rainbows for supper. They got the worms, caught the fish and helped clean them, then helped salt and pepper and butter them and put them on the grill. We are eating in just a second. My kids will always understand where food comes from and what it means to take care of animals.

We are in a different time, but one of my earliest memories was visiting my grandparents and my Dad and my Grandpaw taking me to the chicken coup in the morning to get eggs for breakfast, then wringing necks later in the day for chicken & dumplings for supper.

Two things stood out. The chickens running around with broken necks, and how fast my Grandmaw could pluck those fixed up birds, and put them in the pot. I was around three years old.

I was nine the first time I saw a hog slaughtered. Didn’t bother me, probably wouldn’t have when I was five or six either.

Guess it depends on the kid and their upbringing. Mine has been with me at the camp since he was on the bottle

My son was 2 when he watched me clean squirrels and rabbits for the first time, my daughter was around 5 before she showed any interest. Now they tell me every time they see a squirrel or rabbit in the yard because they want to eat it. I really don't think there's an age too young. It all depends on when the kid is interested in learning where meat comes from.
