You can shoot 223 Remington in a NATO 5.56x45 chamber but you can't shoot 5.56 in a 223 chamber.
AR15 = 5.56x45 (223)
Mini 14 = 223 Remington (only)

Ya I don't have nearly enough to make a fort. I do stockpile at least 200 rounds a week though of various calibers.
7.62 = 10,500+
.22 = 7,000+
12Gauge 00Buck=100ish
12Gauge Slugs =75ish
12Gauge #4 =100ish
12Gauge #8 =200ish <--can be turned into a cut shell if needed.
.45 ACP = 1,200+ need more
5.57 = 3,300+ need more
308 = less than 100. need lots more
9mm = 500
Going hard and heavy on .45, 308 and 5.57 to get them up to par. Just bought a Savage in 308. Teaching wife to shoot the AR has dwindled that supply rather quckly. Do not own a 9mm yet but I have started to stock a little bit of that as well.

You can shoot 5.56 in a Mini 14 because the barrel is marked 223 CAL" not ".223 rem, but MY PERSONAL preference is not too. 5.56mm cartridge is loaded to higher pressures than the .223 Remington. Taking advantage of the longer throat, the 5.56 can safely operate at a more powerful loading level.
Firing a 5.56 cartridge (which is loaded to higher pressure) in a .223 Remington chambered rifle (which has a shorter throat causing a further boost in pressure), could exceed the safety margin in a .223 Remington rifle. It cannot be done with complete safety.

if it says "223" on it I wont shoot 5.56 in it. no matter if it says "REM" or not.

All of my guns and ammo were lost in a very tragic boating accident. Everything sank to the bottom to never be seen again. What a terrible loss!

30 06= 150 rounds
20 gauge= 50 bird shot, 50 slugs + buck
357= 2 boxes 357 and 1 box 38 speical
For zombies I guess I need to start off with "one shot one kill"
