Homochitto National Forest Question

What is the rule on stands for the homochitto? I have heard that you can leave a stand up all season as long as it has your name on it? Are ladder stands permitted or just tree climbers? Will be hunting the area for the first time this year. Any other tips?

I'm not sure about the rules but even if you "can" leave a stand out there you won't be able to come back to it. 80% it gets stolen in the first week and 100% in the first month. 50% in the first day you're absent.

I've hunted on the forest on and off for 30 years. Can count on one hand the number of stands if walked up on that someone left in the woods. Bring your climber in and out.
Fall in the homochitto natuonal forest is as beautiful of a place anywhere around. Enjoy it.

What's so beautiful about pine trees?

Hunted it for over 20 yrs. Beautiful areas. Find the bedding areas(genius right?)
We used to lock our ladders to tree and never lost one but we also had a camp within a few hundred yds of them.
Be careful during either sex season. I almost got killed a few yrs ago with ya hoos shooting at an illegal spike from the road FROM their truck in my direction. Buncha outlaws running around.
But the hills and forest can be a beautiful hunt.

You can leave it if you wish but anyone who likes can hunt out of it, including beating you there by 15 min on opening morning. It also lets them know where to scout around for their new to them trail cam.

I know of a few in Desoto NF in SE MS; one is mine. It's legal, just don't make them too obvious or too close to the road. They are first come first serve and could be stolen.
