Hog question

Ive been baiting one stand for hogs and Ive had a lot them coming in pretty consistently....over 20 in the herd. I put out a hog trap and havent had any come back in almost 2 weeks. The trap is about 20 yards away from the stand/feeder. I have a camera on the feeder and it shows nothing.
Did I spook them out or is that just a coincidence?

You may have spooked them. We put feed in the trap but do not set it for at least a week. Let them go in and out freely. They get used to feeding there and then set it. Usually works for us

give it time they will come back.
if they have another good food source close by it could take a little while.

They are probably on acorns right now.
Put bait inside and outside of the trap.

I have corn inside and outside. I have several people telling me to put diesel soaked rag in it.

Don't know about diesel but kool aid mix works.

Wait for rain then rebait. Also decrease the amount the feeder throws. Make sure there is a solid trail of feed from feeder to trap. Post pics of trap also please.

I know they have not even gotten close to the trap yet but cover the floor with dirt / mud, they dont like walking on wire
we also brush them up a little bit

Fairly nice trap. I like the door mechanism and that it does not shut flush. The angle helps encourage more to push in the trap. once one is caught. A big pig will break those back side welds though. I would consider putting angle iron on all of the edges, or at least driving a T post on each back corner.
Next time you set it up try to put it up against or inside of the trees/cover and on a trail if possible. Cover the floor well with pine straw. Actually try to brush it in a bit. It does actually help.
I would make the trail to the trap a little heavier. Do not touch the trap door or frame with your bare hands. Hogs have beter sniffers than deer.
If you notice all of the corn is getting eaten right up to and just inside the door but not in the trap then doe are eating it.
It is possible this group of hogs has been educated on this style of trap. If so the dominant sow/boar will actually run the others away from the door and you have to take that hog out to succesfully trap them.
If the hogs are just gone, count your blessings but don't worry they will be back. In dry times pigs will have up to a 6 mile radius of habitation supposedly. The one thing they do remember is where free groceries are though.

What BleedingPurple said > ...I have the same style trap, works very well for uneducated hogs. I dig a hole right where your bait sits, fill it, put trap over, and add more bait. Heavily cover the floor, if they feel the wire, they seem to back out. I wire tie pine limbs all over the trap to brush it in, and set it in some pine surroundings. Like BleedingPurple said again, make tge lead trail a little heavier, the yellow brick road that leads directly into the trap.

wear leather gloves and rubber boots when you move it.

I trapped 12 in mine last year, best to get a sow, and the youngins will wander aimlessly outside the trap, so when you check it sneak in, I tapped 3 little ones outside the trap on the way in, with 3 sows inside. If you shoot them in the trap, make sure to scoop up all blood and carry somewhere to dump. Hard to do without spreading your scent but necessary. Apparently a few hogs out of the 30 + / - that I have now, remember the trap, they wont touch it this year. And Good Luck! They have been a constant pain in my arse, running the deer out and never showing their faces until nightfall.
