Tips for kid using bait caster

My son wants to start using a bait casting reel. Any tips on how to make him successful with the least amount of frustration.

Right now he practices by casting into the pool. We put floating rings in the water and he casts at them. We tie on weights, not lures. Some of his friends have started coming over and they turn it into a game.

Bought H & R 7mm08 for my son 3 yrs ago. Couldnt get it to group well beyond 50 yds. I shot it and had2 other guys shoot it. Tried 3 types of ammo. Replaced the scope with an old one i had. still didnt work. Sent it back and they said the barrel needed to be replaced. They replaced it and sent it back to me. Same problem....couldnt get good groups beyond 50 yards. Sent it back again and got my $$ back. Bought a Remington 7mm08 and havent had any problems.

My buddy has 2 H& R rifles for his kids and has never had a problem.

i was given good advise when my son was young....make sure he has his own set of binocs. Then play Ispy with him using them. You find something in the distance and get him to find it. He has fun and learns at the same time.

I did the exact same thing with my son. Learned to shoot w/scope on .22. First time he shot a deer rifle was at a deer. He dropped the deer where it stood from about 70 yards. Never felt the kick. He was 8 yrs old. Now he is 13 and shoots about 3 deer a season, has never missed one and has dropped 3 where they stood. :cool:

Deer....I usually use 150gr but I was out of it and didnt have time to go to store so I used what I had. Thet may have affected it too.

Remington 30-6 180gr.

Thats never happened before. My scope is on raised mounts so I'm hoping it just got bumped. I'll be taking it off those mounts.

If its its sighted in as on at 100 yards and I shoot at a bobcat at 70 yards, should I am a little high or low.

I missed with 3 shots tonight. Going to the range tomorrow to check it out. :banghead:

Did anyone else think it was weird that Daryl said they could not shoot the gov from 50 yards out??? Any good redneck knows that a 50 yard shot is a layup.
