Looking for ideas on ways to help control hogs. Our lease is infested with hogs this year, and we are looking for a solution. We have a couple of traps we will set, but i don't think that will be enough to make a dent. I will go out with my thermal scope, but that will also limit what we can do. Any ideas appreciated. The lease is in Franklin County, MS.

Put fences around your feeders so hogs have no access. Build some decent sized corral traps and start feeding corn there. Catch as many as you can. Wash rinse repeat

stop feeding the deer and the hogs will move on. I have never understood how this is not self evident .

Get Pat Larkin and his boys to run their hog dogs.

Where bouts in Franklin County?

Shoot them

Eat them

Enjoy them

I will die on the hill that hunters complaining about having hogs is only done because they believe they're supposed to hate hogs. They are delicious and they give you more animals to hunt throughout the year.

Meadville, Any contact for Pat Larkin? Is he affiliated with the Larkin feed store and veterinary clinic in Bude?

This is my attitude as well. They provide me more opportunities and allow friends and family to shoot as well. Our place isn’t large enough to harvest more than 3-4 deer a year. As we normally only have about 12 or so individual deer roaming about most seasons.

I killed a 300lb boar last year that stunk so bad the coyotes and buzzards wouldn’t even touch him. He just decayed away and stunk so bad you couldn’t get within 100ft of where I dumped him with the tractor. Now the smaller ones around 100lbs Yeah I agree, those are some good eating.

This way of thinking is why we’ll never get rid of hogs.

Honestly the hogs make better sausage. Lately I make burger meat from my deer with everything except the back straps and sausage/boudin from any hogs we shoot

30 foot diameter hog excluders around your feeders.

Buy a quality cell camera operated trap.

Bait, drop the gates, kill immediately.

Look for hog activity elsewhere and move the trap wherever that is.

Thermals are fun and all, but dont put a dent in the population. We've probably killed 40 or so in three years with the thermals.

We've killed 300+ in that same timeframe with the trap.

1. Stop feeding the pigs
2. Trap them

You're dying on the hill that people complain about an invasive because they're told to do so? That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard.

Yeah, if you don't like more turkey, quail and deer hunting. They decimate upland bird habitat and nests. A biologist told us that they are losing over 70% of their fawn crop per year to hogs alone on a wma that's covered up with them. During fawning season they turn into carnivorous fawn hunting machines because they can smell the fawns, unlike natural predators who can't hone in on them from long distances. When a sounder of hogs moves into an area, deer activity is drastically reduced, and that's not antecdotal.

There's quite literally mounds of science, let alone antecdotal experience, that this invasive species is terrible for native flora and fauna, recreational opportunities, and they are the cause of over $1.5 billion in agricultural losses every year.

That's a small hill you're dying on, but good luck anyway.

I have never said that you shouldn't kill every pig you see.

Of course there are negative effects of hogs. It's the guys that dump literally tons of corn out there and then complain that pigs are coming in, eating it, and reproducing like crazy that crack me up. You're part of the problem. If you don't want to stop feeding them then stop complaining.

Then there's the ignorant folks who say you can't eat them over x, weight. The in-comprehendible mindset of lowlifes who suggest you shoot them in the gut and let him run off to die.

In no way would I suggest we build a sanctuary for them; I will always shoot and kill every hog I can. BUT in the end, they aren't the end of the world

They still run hog dogs, told him you’d call the vet and leave a message for him to call you back.

Just look up vet and get number. If that doesn’t work get back with me thru here.
