Help with NEMA 2000 hook up

I use to be some what technically incline and upto date with modern technology but for some reason i can't figure this out. I have a Yamaha F-150 (2016). I see where the connection is behind the block for the cable. I also have a Lowrance TI7 on my console. Is the only thing I need to pull the info from my engine to my depth finder the Yamaha/lowarance cable? I realize that it's a network and many of devices can be connected with Ts however at this time I'm just trying to get my engine info on my screen. Anyone have any experice with this ?

I know mercury has a specific module you have to buy to hook it up to the motor. I assume Yamaha is they same. You can’t just hook it up straight to the motor without it.

You need to set up the nmea2000 backbone if you don't have one already.
It's basically two terminating resistors and a power connection. You add a "t" to the backbone to to connect the yammy cable, then abother "t" to run a cable to Lowrance

I dont know about the Yamaha but i know that generally you need something to covert from engine language (J1939, smartcraft, etc) to NEMA. If youre lucky it might already be a NEMA output from the engine and you could just hook it up. The manual should tell you

Newer Yamaha has direct nmea output. Just need yammy to nmea cable

You will have to have the NMEA backbone set up and powered up.
Hook the wire from the engine to the network backbone.
Run another network wire from the back bone to the gps unit.
After that it should bring all the info you have on the engine as long as the key to the boat is on. I had the same setup in my old boat with the elite 7ti. It's amazing the amount of info you can pull. Just edit each of the dashboards to show you what info you want

If you have a nema backbone all you have to do is add a tee and the engine interface cable.
Wish I had a Yamaha. Mercury speaks CAN so you have to have the gateway module or smartcraft that translates to NEMA2K to get data. $700 vs $100 in your case.

A guy at the audio shop told me the engine was set up for it and all I need is the cable. the YouTube videos show it just plugs in. Nothing anywhere shows from there though. I see where they talk about the back bone etc but that seems to be when your running other items. At one point I would like to get there but for now I just want to get my engine info to my depth finder. I'm hoping this is it but I can't figure it out.

I think the end of the cable and the connection on the gps is the same (male/male). I don't think it will hook directly up I remember correctly. That's why you need the NMEA starter kit or "backbone"

Yep, you need voltage to power the network. You cannot plug it directly into the unit.

You 100% need the backbone for any nmea2k connections

Awesome. I'll get the starter kit also.

Thanks. I only give advice if I can speak facts.
