Alright guys I'm out of ideas for my little buddy. He is now 6 months and it's a constant struggle to get him to eat. He refuses to eat in the morning and barely eats in the evening. From my understanding he is suppose to take in around 4 cups per day and he barely puts down a cup. I take him for walks now almost daily to try and work up his appetite but still nothing. I switched his food because he liked this stuff one day when I fed it to him but he is now back to his old ways. Any advice would be helpful

What kind of food? Tried any soft food?

My female is on a diet, she was pushing 80+ so she gets less now. She towers over other boxers though.

I had him on science diet since I got him and recently switched to Nutro lamb and rice. The first day he threw down 4 cups in a sitting and now he's back to barely eating a cup. I have not tried soft food because I'm nervous about making him even more picky with his food. But if that's what I have to do then that's what I have to do I guess

My ST became imaciated over the course of two weeks. Upon vet's recommendation, I mixed in half a can of wet food with his dry food and added some water. He chowd down the very first time I put it in front of him. He was back to his normal weight within two weeks. After a month, I switched him back to straight dry food.

Was the transition back to dry food difficult?

Transition was easy for him. I want to say it was some kind of science diet wet food or something. That was like 8 years ago so I don't know really. I remember it was expensive. Like $2 or 3 a can or something.

We did the same, make sure you are feeding puppy food we did Purina pro plan rice and chicken, we bought the same wet food to mix it. I know pro plan is a little more expensive but for a boxer it would be good to give it a try. As long as you don't give to much wet you won't have to break them from it - I still do it if we are going out for the day and want her to eat quickly.

4 cups may be a bit much food for a puppy. I have a bulldog so this may be a little different but he never ate 4 cups of food. Puppy or adult. He gets two cups a day. And that's based on his weight on the back of the bag.

Eta. But if he is barely eating anything at all, you might have to try multiple foods till something stick with him. Try mixing some peanut butter in his food.

My boxer seems to starve himself sometimes also. He has allergies so we feed him blue basics and I'll mix in some wet food from blue wilderness.

Well the bag suggests 2 - 2 3/4 cups per serving twice a day so thats what I put out. But he dosent get close to half of that

My GSD did the same. I tried wet food in cans but it gave her bad diarrhea. I switched to getting cheap 2 dozen boxes of eggs and cooking them then mixing with her dry food. This works extremely well.

Mine is 9 weeks old and will eat whatever you will give him, so I'm not sure how to deal with one that wont eat. We are feeding him Authority Grain Free from Petsmart and he loves it. As much as he eats though, he is still skinny as ever. Vet says he is worm free and not worried about him being so skinny right now. He does have a slight heart murmur though, so we are watching that.

I did the eggs for a while but he just pushes the dog food around and only eats the egg. I only do it when he goes without eating for a little while

Got two dogs and one is a boxer. Sometimes they won't eat and then we'll throw a cup of water in the food bowl and they tear it up. Weird but hey it works for them sometimes.

My brother's boxer got pancreatitis from two much fat in her diet. She got sluggish, didn't eat much, would puke a lot of it up.

He fixed her up feeding her chicken and rice. Boil the chicken and strain away the fat and juices, so you have just the meat. Mix with rice, a pot will last a few days. Feed her a bowl twice a day. Once the dog starts getting perky again, start transitioning into Science Diet, but watch for relapses into vomiting and loss of appetite.

edit- get rid of the chicken fat, but use the broth (clear liquid) with the meat and rice.
