They are all long action. I think some people are using them for short action calibers and loading long. They still aren't as long as the 70 and 700, which can shoehorn in magnum length cartridges.

I agree. The latest Wizz bang thing is great and the PRC / Creedmoor calibers are very intelligently designed.

It's crazy how some REALLY old metric centerfire calibers (6.5x55, 7x57, etc) all would look very modern if they were released today. Modest case capacity and long bullets seated long is a very old approach.

We put belts on cases just because "it isn't a magnum if it doesn't have a belt." The new stuff isn't hamstringed by stupid stuff like that.

That's the thing though, they don't do anything better than calibers that have been out for decades.

Right, but 6.5x55 doesn't sound cool enough for hornady to make a ton of money from.

The new stuff does have merits, but only for people who shoot far alot (300 PRC) or hunt dangerous game (375 and 416 ruger). The vast majority of us are far better served with something very common and available in the rifle we like.

Look at all the WSM's, Noslers, and 6.8 western. None of them got popular and they're all already fading away, despite being "smarter" designs than the old stuff. Same will happen to the PRC rounds when the next wizzbang kills them off.

.30-06, 300 win mag, .270 win etc will all be around forever.
