Help locating trout this time of year.

I suck at locating trout in March. I'm not looking for specific spots, just general areas. I know they are in transition from the inside to the outside, but man I struggle to find them until late April or so. Should I target mouths of major bayous, deep holes, ponds, outer bays?
I'm headed to Cocodrie on Saturday. Winds SSE 8-10 mph. Water temps 70ish. Air temp high mid 70s. Sunny. What would you do?

I’d say you’re on the right track looking in the water.

I'd sleep in a bit and head out about 7:00 towards the islands. The water should be cleaned up by then. Winds have been brutal lately and everything is chocolate milk in the marsh. Fish wellheads and reefs near the island.

march is the hardest month of the year to fish for a reason

If you can get out to the sulphur mine, I heard the specs are biting there.

That 8-10 is almost certainly going to be 15.
Like others have said this month just sucks for trout, water always muddy, wind, transition, etc.
Just try to find some decent looking moving water. Bait is a plus.
Last week we caught them one day and zero the next, just the name of the game in March

Wind and swollen rivers create issues. In March I like to fish bays near mouths of bayous where there is a ledge. You want the wind to push salt water in for a few days, have high water and then fish a light wind day with falling water.
In some bays you will find a deeper channels that run through. Pop a cork with a 3’-4’ leader and 1/4oz jig head with sparkle beetle. You’re looking for water depths of 4’-8’ drops. Bring the cork from shallow to deep. Sometimes the frequency of pops, amount of pops, and leader length can be the difference as crazy as it sounds. I fish with multiple leader lengths sometimes and pick up fish with a 2.5’ vs 3.5’ in an area where both have previously worked in the same depth.
Don’t be afraid to drift. Drop the anchor, power pole, or trolling motor when you start snagging trout. Can’t stress drifting enough, don’t be afraid of 8’-12’ of water either.
Typically, this time of year, the afternoon is a hotter bite than the morning. The water temps change pretty drastically with the air temps. Right now we are looking at 45 @ night and ~75 @ afternoon. That’s a big swing for the fish. You can see almost a 10 degree water temp change. You want to fish near the peak of the water temp change. 65-70 degrees will be the best bite.
