Help: 2008 Yamaha Grizzly 700 clicking issue
Posted on 12/11/22 at 8:05 am

When hitting the start button I occasionally am getting a clicking sound and it doesn't start. I thought my older battery was going out so I replaced it with a new agm battery. Still getting the click sound occasionally. No loose wires or terminals that I can find.
What could be the issue? Starter relay. Starter. Or something else

Starter solenoid. Cheap, easy replacement.
Just push the button repeatedly until u locate the clicking. That will be the solenoid. On my 660, it is under the seat on frame rail. It may be under that front rack hood piece near the battery on the 700.

If they aren't expensive I would buy 2 of them and keep the extra on the bike. My 660 would go through a bunch of them before I converted it to a Ford solenoid. The contacts in the Yamaha solenoid are kind of thin and a lot of power going through them to the starter messes them up.

Like others have said, it's the solenoid. I replaced one on my Yamaha Kodiak 700 last year.
I had killed a pretty good buck last year right before dusk during archery season. Went to start the 4 wheeler on my 12' trailer i was towing to drag his arse but nothing but clicking. Boy was I pissed.

that is the starter solenoid doing that clicking
it can be caused by a weak battery, but it can also be from having bad connections or bad wires for main power to the battery.
do this simple test with jumper cables.
connect jumper cable from battery ground to the starter body itself on a good grounding point like a mounting bolt and then see if that fixes it. if it does then you need to clean the ground connections to starter and often times it helps to just add an extra ground wire from battery to one of the starter mounting bolts
if the ground connection isnt the problem then next you need to test the power side
connect jumper cable from battery positive to the starter solenoid on the battery side and then see if that fixes it. if not then move cable to the starter side of the starter solenoid and the other end to starter power connection at the starter and test. if none of that works then jumper the starter solenoid and if that works then you just need a new starter solenoid for it

That's a lot of stuff.... go other direction. If it clicks, use the tip of needle nose pliers and jump the solenoid bolts. If it starts, change solenoid. If it doesn't start, do all that other shite posted above.
I have a kodiak 700, and grizzly 660. This is why I am glad my grizzly has pull-rope start for back up. If it doesn't rip your shoulder out first.

I keep an old screwdriver with my spark plug and wrench on my bike.
I've had to jump mine before to get it started. Beats the hell of that pull rope.

Same... I actually have only used rope start for dead battery. But damn that thing hurt my shoulder.

Brother, you know some shite! Second ground wire suggestion is a simple effective solution/insurance on any machine.
These are the kind of tips I read the board for.
