These things are huge…around 400Lbs
Apparently some wealthy eccentric introduced them to SV back in the 1800s.

I imagine the draw is super competitive.

I’m interested to see if anyone here has been successful.

There's some pretty good youtube videos, looks like a lot of work if you do harvest one.

It’s a difficult hunt. Low draw odds, expect to need 3-5 preference points. Apply as a group. After that; less than 10% of hunters drawn are successful. I think 8 were harvested of the 170 hunters who showed up when I was there. Snakes, humidity and mosquitoes. Was there in 18’. They are impressive animals. A buddy of mine got one during the hunt. Meat was very tasty.

Snakes

This and the swampy land has got to make it tough. SV is FULL of snakes that bite.

This is wild… I feel like I hear about a new free roaming introduced/exotic species every other day now.

I was looking at these randomly the other day when researching red stag. They are impressive animals

High School classmates granddad was caretaker back before the Feds bought it. Special place and special area. It used to be an amazing deer hunt.

I agree. I had some backstrap a couple years ago that a buddy cooked.
