I had a lot of encounters this last 4 days, only marginal shots. Lots of real hard work, no dead birds.

Many fish have been caught too. Having to do a bunch prescribed burns to deal with some crazy grass called Congongrass.

Are they tasty? Serious question.

If you like turkey, they taste good.

So they tast like domesticated turkeys? I would’ve thought they were a darker meat and definitely different tasting.

you spray the cogongrass before you burned it?

fire alone wont do anything but piss it off

As good or better. The legs are much smaller and leaner and breasts are larger on a wild. But the taste is great, nothing like wild game at all.

I killed 1 this past Wednesday. Doubled with a friend Friday before work. Videoed a double with a disabled girl and her dad Saturday, and another double yesterday with a veteran.

Called 3 up to 40 yards on opening day but never got a shot. They stayed behind some trash.

Last Friday I had lots of gobbles but chased them in a circle. It was my impatience

Been working my arse off trying to get my SO her first bird. Yesterday morning I got 2 hard gobbling birds to cross a clear cut and come within 20 yrds but only to find out they were both jakes and you cant kill them in MS.

They were the hardest and most mature sounding jakes ive ever heard. Regardless, I got them to strut and gobble in front of her so its not all that bad I guess...

Our season doesn't open until the 6th. Hope to get my son on one for the Youth hunt this weekend.

I had the exact same thing yesterday. Only one was gobbling, but if they'd have came in and just stuck a head up above a ridge I'd have blasted. Instead I watched them come in from 100yds. full gobbles. Pissed me off more that I spent an hour and a half getting to where I needed to be to call to them.

As crappy of a situation it was, I was still cool for my SO to see how its supposed to happen and how we had to run through the woods to cut the birds off and then eventually the show they put on. She doesnt want to admit it but I think shes bit by the turkey bug lol. She was mad as hell when I told her not to shoot

ETA: I would post the video I took of them gobbling as they walked off but I dont know how to post it
