Has anybody ever went through the form 1 for making a suppressor?

I've seen where some companies are selling kits for solvent traps that screw on to the end of your barrel. With a few small modifications you can make it into a suppressor. Obviously, you need form 1 approved first. Would this be the same process of buying one outright or is it different because you are technically the manufacturer? Also, has anyone used one and could compare it to a standard commercial suppressor like silencerco?

I've always figured it wasn't worth it. Still gotta pay for a $200 stamp and cans start at only $200. Not sure if paying 50% of the final cost to experiment would be worth it. And its not like freezer plugs are designed with with that kind of pressure or frequencies in mind.
Now, if you deem it worthy. Go ahead full speed and post results.

My thinking was I could have a, what I hope to be decent, suppressor for my ar in the $350 range with the stamp, vs $200 stamp and more like $800 for the suppressor. $1k is just money I cant justify

I'm thinking that the life span will probably be shorter, and the POI shift will be more drastic with the "homemade" suppressor. Doesn't seem worth it to me. Suppressor companies do a lot of R&D to maximize the life span and minimize POI shift.

What caliber are you wanting to suppress? I could see making a .22 can for poops and gigs. If you are talking 30cal or larger, that's too much risk for me. Maybe 45acp would be okay, but then we get back into the why area.
So, once we get past the safety aspect, we get into the effective aspect. How much less effective is a Maglite can vs a AAC? I don't know.
Again, all my opinion. I don't have the money for all the cans I want, so I don't have them. I have a SDN-6 and will get an Octane for pistols. Two suppressors, all firearms (minus .22 which a Maglite can would be cool).

It would be 223/5.56 that I want to suppress. I'd use a 30 cal hole though in case I wanted to use it on a 308

Specwar K
Would suppress much better than anything built. Would be much safer than anything built. Closer to the range of building than expected.
$337, questionable quality
$700, good quality
Change good quality to great quality. Those Dead Air are supposed to be the newest and greatest thing.

That $700 dollar one is what I'd like to have. As far as durability goes, freeze plugs are cheap. I can buy a truck bed full of them for $700.

I do not believe that you can legally change them out after final construction.

According to my brief research on the subject you can if you destroy the part you're replacing first. Take baffle out, cut it up into tiny pieces, make new baffle and replace
