Yeah man making that decision for our best friends was a decision Iit sounds like either of us or anyone really could be ready for.

Our boy died at 11 from heart failure. He had addisons and thyroid disease that I gave him monthly injections and daily medicine for since his 1st birthday.

He died January 2024. He never looked like he was suffering or in pain. But he knew time was up and had “given up”. He would go through dog door and lay in grass when temps were 30°.

I made the decision we couldn’t let him go on like this anymore. We had a home service scheduled to come to our house to help put him to sleep the next day. It crushed me to do it. But then he died around 3:30am that morning on his own with me laying next to him and I woke my wife up to tell him goodbye.

He was a good boy till the end (and I joke he saved us those fees haha)

Anybody else on this board ever put down one of their dogs that had that long??

Had a 13 year old Black Mouth Cur that I got when he was 3 weeks old. Boohooed like a baby at the vet's office. I couldn't watch.

I have done it and hated myself for it regardless of the "need".

What someone in the veterinary care business should do is offer to do this in-home, make house calls to administer the drug so that the dog won't be stressed by a trip to the clinic and if you have a dog you know what I am talking about.

We have a Bernedoodle - Not sure if I spelled it correctly.
Fun dog. But big (100 lbs) - and he thinks he's a lap dog.... :)

What a blessing! Drake indeed let you know he is ok. I got a rainbow in the sky the day my girl crossed the bridge. I’d asked her for a sign when she made it to heaven. I understand they often let us know they are ok if we listen and watch. And sometimes, they visit. Thanks for sharing.
