The US federal government is the biggest Mexican gun runner on the planet.

How does that work? I would think if I were buying a dozen ARs at a time that would attract attention?

You buy AR with the money they give you. It cost you nothing. Private sale in Texas. They then take the guns and transport them out of the USA. If they aren't getting them from the US govt which I'm sure they are.

And then how do you get them thru the checkpoints? you aren't carrying a dozen ARs thru some river crossing, they gotta be flown or trucked.
They hire Americans that can travel freely across. It's how alot of drugs enter here. If someone offers you 5000 bucks a trip and you don't know shite other than drive this vehicle from point A to point B, it's easy money.

kinda clueless comment. The worst thing to do at any border crossing is to offer money to an agent . You will be on video and held in jail till trial that you will not like

The OP is asking about Mexican Cartels moving weapons (bought in the US) into Mexico. If you think cartels don't smuggle stuff from the US into Mexico under the noses of Mexican Customs officials directly through boarder crossings, they you're not living in reality.

On mission trips we cross the boarder at Matamoros, Going through Mexican customs into Mexico is sketch. Sometimes we go through with no problems, sometimes they want a "tax" to get our medical supplies through, the "tax" is never the same

The ARs they find are typically disassembled to make them easier to smuggle across.

This was what I was thinking too. If you're doing a 14.5" barrel, then nothing would be long if you're doing components. It might take a couple guys a day to put 50+ together, if they have the right tools set up in a workshop.

Could you imagine a couple dozen barrels mixed in with regular pipe? Same with buffer tubes. You stack that stuff up and send it with regular machine supplies, and stick it in crates on a ship.

Going from the US in Mexico, you go through Mexican customs, just about anything goes, especially with a couple dollars slipped in the pocket of a customs official.

I havent done it in a couple of years but just a couple of years ago I was going to Juarez about 3 times a month for about 9 months and I don't think they ever stopped me going south. They usually only stopped me for about 30 seconds going north. There is also a sizeable coast line that one could use and finally airstrips. Where there's a dollar to be made somebody is gonna make that dollar...

I’ve driven into Mexico without them ever checking my truck.
