When my son was small I got him a Ruger Wrangler .22 that he loves.

Bc they look like cowboy guns, little boys like revolvers.

Whatever you decide on go ahead and stockpile ammo for it. By the time he is old enough to use it ammo could be a memory

That's a great idea.

I was kind of eyeing a SBE3 at spillway earlier this year, but was debating on it vs a 20ga.

Not sure about the recoil of an inertia vs gas though. I have an A300 20ga with KO and it's the smoothest shooting shotgun I've had.

All my buddies have their young'ns hunting with a 28g sbe3, 20g sbe3 or 28g sx4, I think the wicked wing sweet 16 is pretty slick and would be a good one but as with many here I started with a youth 870 in 20.

There’s been a good bit of change in guns in recent years. I’d wait until the child could actually use the guns and see what’s available then.
In the meantime, I’d invest in a college fund.

The Outdoor Board needs to be changed to the Life Advice Board.

Well, believe it or not, there’s far more important things a one year old needs than his own arsenal. The youngster may never even hunt as an adult.

I guess the main question is OP trying to buy what he will one day consider family "heirlooms" or is he trying to buy him guns he will actually use?

If its the lader, then I would wait and buy them as gifts for when he hits certain milestone birthdays.

Bought my son a new shotgun at age 16 knowing he likes to hunt.

Until then, he was using my old shot guns, some of which were my fathers, and my grandfathers.

Yeah, I do not get the OP at all.
