All in training. A few times out will fix all of this. Does not take a hulk to load and run a handgun. The motions may feel different than a normal action, but after doing so a few times I do not see how any woman can not function any handgun. No harder than any vaccum. Kiddin there ladies.

My wife is small and while she can get it done with my CW9, it's NOT enjoyable for her. If she had to clear a jam or load it in the dark in a stressful situation, she would struggle. She's probably like most women. She got really into it for a short period and was going shooting with me for a while and then lost interest and now rarely gets to the range. A revolver would be a much better option for her.

Recoil will turn you away from shooting, therefore you will be no good with the gun. My wife hated the G22 but loves my new G19. She really loves it.

Its not the recoil that bothers her. It's the stiffness of the spring in a compact pistol. She struggles with it, but the worse part is after some shooting and hand fatigue her technique goes to shite. Especially when trying to grip the slide.

I think anticipation of the recoil screws people up more than anything. I don't understand why. Any gun is gonna kick some, it's squeezing the trigger rather than pulling it. But that is just the opinion of a lowly woman. What do I know?

just buy something that catches your eye. It won't be your last. there is always a reason to buy another gun

Wal-Mart has a 20ga pump HD gun made by H&R for $159. Should be all you need!

I'm not reading this whole thread...
A youth model 870 20ga would be your best bet IMO

This is my answer to all of these threads, but somebody else always says it so I just wait for it

My brother has one. It's the coolest little gun ever. I'm pretty sure either me or my ol lady could ruin a bad guy with it pretty easily.

I'd like one. I have a youth model Rossi crack barrel 20 ga that's kind of shitty but awesome in that it's short and light. Keep 5 rounds of #4 buckshot on it handy case shite goes down. Crack barrel isn't optimal but it's better than nothing.
It also makes an awesome snake gun for going do work in the woods

Get you one. It's the best rabbit gun there ever was.
I ride around with a 20ga crackbarrel in my truck
Mainly because if it gets stolen I can get a new one for $100. I don't keep guns in my truck for shooting people. I need em for varmints.

As much as I want to disagree with the first part of this comment, the truth in the last part makes me say "yes".

Something I have not seen mentioned is a dog or two.
I have a couple of Catahoula Curs that run out in my yard and they are fearless but I live out in the country.
May want to try a midsized dog if you live in closer to town. A good watch-dog that will bark at strangers will deter many a would-be thug plus it gives you an advanced alarm system.
A few other things:
*Plant those sticky bushes around your windows.
*Get a professionally installed alarm system. If you can't afford an actual security system, you can buy faux security signs and place them around your house, also you can buy faux lighted security entry pads and put them around the doors.
*Purchase those small battery operated alarms that you can place on windows and doors. They emit a loud high-pitched noise that if breeched will warn you and probably scare off a would-be intruder.
*Dead-bolts for your doors plus STRONG sturdy door frames. Strongest door doesn't mean a thing if you have weak door frames.

Hate to shoot your dog idea down, but intruders have been known to drug/poison your dog with a piece of meat.

Thats true but its still better to have good watch-dog than to not have one. Most thugs are not going to be thinking along those lines.
