GSP question for the OB.

My child just got a 9 week old GSP pup. It weighs 11 lbs. Child is a little concerned because this is below the avg weight of 18 lbs. She (the pup) is 12" at the shoulder. Is this anything to be concerned about? We are feeding the pup 1/2 cup in the morning and evening. She doesn't always eat the entire amount. Should we decrease the amount of feed to 1/3 of a cup and feed 3 times a day to help increase weight? Any help from the OB would be appreciated.

Has the pup been to the vet for all previous shots and wormed?

Grizz was pretty tiny at that age was only 55lbs

18 lbs is awfully big for a 9 week old German shorthair puppy.

Sorry for the late response.
She has been wormed and is up to date on shots. She did much better today with eating. I might add we bought her from a breeder in Missouri and she was sedated for the flight into Shreveport last Tuesday. I am still wondering, would you guys recommend feeding 3 times a day with 1/3 a cup or continue with a 1/2 cup 2 times a day.

feed as much as they will eat two times a day for the first 4-5 months,(depending on breed)..

Mine had lots of big dogs in his pedigree. He looked like he was on his way but he turned out smaller. He is about 45-50. He can eat like a horse and runs all day. As long as they are healthy and happy.

3 times a day is the best, their stomachs aren't big enough to hold a lot right now

Yes she is on puppy chow. She is on Nature's Recipe Lamb & Rice. She had a very active day today and ate much better. I appreciate everyone's help and my next question would be what kind of training should I give her?
Unfortunately she is my daughter's dog and will be a pet. My daughter understands the pup is a very active breed and will need exercise. She is an avid runner and will take the pup running. She also wants to train the pup to enjoy the water. Any suggestions? I have never owned a bird dog or have any experience with them. I have always been a hunter that uses Walker hounds and Beagles. I have no idea how to train this pup to retrieve something from the water.

Feed her better food... Get the most cals out of the small amount of food... Go to at least blue buffalo. You have to watch with some better quality foods (puppy formulas) because they can recommend not feeding to large breed dogs though... For example I think wellness does not recommend their puppy food for large breed dogs.
Fed the a-hole blue buffalo puppy. Then I went on a massive food trial b/c I couldn't find anything that made him shite right.
That all being said... He only eats 3 cups a day and is about 57lbs.

lol i have a male and a female yellow lab.. feed them almost the exact same amount. my male gets maybe one cup more food a day. Feed them once a day and pull food. He is just a big dog. She weighs 65 and he is between 140-150 honestly, and isnt really fat just a big dog
