I think it’s limited to only 100 licenses.

Do you actually learn anything when you go down there or do you just repeat the bullshite that you hear?

Tell me again, how much do those licenses cost?

Well aren’t you a salty fellow. My info actually came from people who have applied to be contractors, but if you want to google it…

There are more than 100 people hunting pythons - most are freelancers. But there are 100 licensed contractors to the best of my knowledge.

And I’m not there to learn anything - I’m there to catch snakes and to have fun doing it, bub.

Then let us know how much the fine is for hunting pythons without a permit. I will give you a clue. The total rhymes with "hero"! You're either an idiot who should know better or an a-hole spreading bullshite!

Actually it depends where you are. The fine without a permit is up to $5,000 in Everglades National Park. How much time have you spent there?

You can hunt without a permit on private or commission-managed lands, but not in the preserves that encompass the majority of the area where they are most plentiful - and you won’t be paid for a python unless you’re a permitted contractor, permitted through the PATRIC program, or participating in the Python Challenge.

Go kill a python in front of an FWC agent or a ranger without a permit outside of private/managed areas and get back to me.

When I get time I’ll post a ton of pics of all the species from this trip and the one a couple weeks ago. I think the last trip was 113 snakes/15 species and I’m at 60 something snakes in the first 3 days of this trip.

You should have run that monster over and hit your breaks, skidded over him then backed up and ran him over again.

Amazing those things are out roaming around in the wild in the US

Florida is barely the "US" to me when it comes to wildlife and climate.

You're in Folsom, right?

I have some property there if youre ever looking for places locally. Mostly pastures, but there are a few old farm ponds and a small branch. Probably 10 acres of overgrown planted pines and hardwoods.

Much like childhood fears of quicksand, I just figure if I get out of my truck that thing will be instantly wrapped around me like a spring going for the kill.

This is what I don't understand. They're invasive. They're decimating native wildlife. I don't understand why there is no open season enabling everyone to kill each python they encounter, whether it's killed with a shovel or a shotgun blast to the head. To heck with this "humane" kill only. Kill them all, by any method, wherever you find them. These rules make me believe Florida really isn't that serious or truthful about wanting them eliminated from the environment. I guess I fall into the SSS group.

I agree with you, let people kill as many of them as possible. However, you'll get morons out there, stuck in a swamp calling to get pulled out, lost, losing a fight with a python, bit by a cottonmouth, etc. Only guessing, but it could be that people are so stupid they'll get themselves in danger & become a liability themselves.

Tigrdad, I like seeing your posts, but there's not a chance in hell I'd ever go out with you. Any animal that kills, eats, & moves without arms & legs? They were the original devil for a reason.

TigrrrDad, there's a lot to unpack here...

Well aren’t you a salty fellow.
I do sometimes get a little salty when I see someone espousing bullshite, especially when I have previously called them out and it still seems they haven't taken the time to educate themselves.
quote:

Are you sure? How many people did you ask? It looks like you Googled it. Thanks for posting the AI Overview. In case you haven't figured it out by now, AI is often wrong!
It begins by saying "Florida's python removal program..." Which one do you think it's referring to? PATRIC, PEP, The Python Challenge, Conservancy of Southwest Florida, Python Patrol, Python Pickup Program?

Let me help you out...the SFWMD PEP alone handles about 50 contractors (the # fluctuates) and each of those contractors can have as many as 3 assistants working with them at any given time. I hope you can handle simple math?
I'm not sure that FWC's PATRIC has a limit, I could find out, but I really don't give a shite as we're already north of 200.
quote:

There are more than 100 people hunting pythons
You're absolutely right about that! On any given day, there are dozens of people hunting pythons. That number can swell to hundreds on weekends during the Python Challenge but, as you said, most of those are freelancers.

I see you failed to quote where I asked about the cost of a python hunting permit. Why?
Go ahead...tell me & everyone else how much a python hunting permit costs!
You did address the subject of a potential fine by saying
quote:

Actually it depends where you are. The fine without a permit is up to $5,000 in Everglades National Park.

Is that the max fine for a Federal Citation? You have lost your mind if you think any NPS or USFWS agent is gonna waste their time, your time, and court time by writing that. The judge might not laugh but will def crack a smile while reducing it or outright dismissing it. The only way it would be filed is if there are some extenuating circumstances and LE wants to "pile on" charges. Maybe you could call Pedro Ramos and ask him the last time someone was actually levied a $5K fine for hunting pythons in Everglades or Big Cypress? I guarantee you he will laugh!

quote:

Go kill a python in front of an FWC agent or a ranger without a permit outside of private/managed areas and get back to me.

Generally, the same can be said for FWC. They might issue a written warning, but it's doubtful that they will ticket someone unless there are other (more serious) infractions involved. In fact, here's the reply to one of the FAQ's on SFWMD's Python Elimination Program
quote:

Members of the public may remove pythons from private lands with landowner permission, and from certain public lands with no permit required.
NO PERMIT REQUIRED!

I'm just getting warmed up...
quote:

How much time have you spent there?

In Everglades...hundreds of days, from Key Largo to Flamingo and up to Chokoloskee, as well as Big Cypress, Fakahatchee, and Picayune Strand!

I was there in the early years of the Python Challenge and have heard many different strategies for python control. I am excited about the recent increase in captures since the advent of paid python removal but I'm skeptical about the sustainability and long-term efficacy of these programs.

I too, enjoy herpetology and have captured many snakes in South Florida. At the risk of doxxing myself, I tell you that at one time, I had captured the two largest red tail boas ever found in Miami-Dade. I think the record was recently broken so I might now only have 2 of the top 3 but I really don't give a shite. I have also captured tegus, a monitor, and assisted in the capture of two caiman, but I'm not the one posting to social media looking for attention, validation, or admiration.
I'm just here to call out your bullshite!

If you do happen to figure out who I am, please contact me just to say "STTigrrDadD!" But please, don't bother to ask me any questions because as you said, you're
